Telling drop-ins apart

I'll hazard to guess that the answer in "no", but is there a way to distinguish one drop-in from another with just a casual examination? I've recently purchased 5 drop-ins in two separate orders from Solarforce-sales.com and they all arrived quite sterile. Aside from the Solarforce sticker, there was nothing to indicate, with regard to the LED type or voltage window, what they were. Fortunately, they all had different enough characteristics that even I could deduce what they were and used a Sharpie to put all the necessary information on the drop-ins for easy future reference.

The XM-L's (3-6v) that come from Solarforcesales were unmarked for me too. I did the same as you and used a Sharpie permanent marker to write the specifics on them for future ID. Some of the XP-G's come with the stickers.

Best to mark the voltage they will accept with a sharpie as soon as you get them.

I still have a couple that I have no idea if they will take 2x Cr123 or not.

Ya, I figured there was no real way to tell what was what. You would think that Solarforce would mark the drop-in itself or, at least, mark the packaging to help you along while you play detective. Thankfully, they all had a different number of modes and dramatically different lumens so even a guy as good looking as me could figure it out.

Is Solarforce the only company that leaves the information off the product?

My biggest problem is I swapped out some OP reflectors for some SMO ones...and forgot to change the markings on them.

I hope if I ever do that mod I can learn from your experience and mark stuff before I have a pile of parts. Not likely; it might be better/safer if I just buy different drop-ins (just practicing b/c this is what I'm going to tell the "boss"). BTW, does it make a huge and dramatic difference when you switch the reflectors?
