New Flashlight Technology

Hello all. I remember 15 years ago I had a SF G2 Nitrolon (which I still own) and thought I was king of the block with 60 lumens. It seems some companies have advanced so much and others Such as Surefire are still relying on Basic CR123s for power. I understand Surefire caters to the military and for a soldier it’s easier to toss CR123s out and add in new ones versus having to charge out in the field. Although they do have rechargeable C123 equivalents they have not caught up to the power and capacity as 18650s or 21700s.

Where do you think we will be 10 years from now on Flashlight Technology? How more advanced and efficient can LEDs get? CR123 and rechargeable batteries? My tone on this subject relies on Power and Lumen output. Is it possible we will have 20,000 sustained lumens from a single led 1 inch bodied flashlight in the future? One can only dream.

Don’t know about lumen. But in 10 years, flashlights accessories might replace micro-USB by USB-C.

i do not think things will change dramatically in 10 years, leds will be a bit better, cells will be a bit better, usb C will be more common, unless something completely new comes out, and revolutionize flashlight industry. our current lights will be very much relevant in 10 years.

Maybe someone will invent practical lights that are safe and simple to use that won’t set your pants on fire?

I think it is easier to make flame proof pants than to invent such light ...

Pretty sure there are already fire proof pants on the market.

I expect something better than leds to power our flashlights, for example that laser powered phosfors are overtaking leds as common light source in flashlights, not only for throwers.

Olight actually has lights that have a proximity sensor built in. If it senses something close it will drop lumens to not burn the object. But yeah. Basic lights out there will
Burn your crotch lol

I think any real advances will have to come from battery tech, as it stands at the moment, what we have available to us now fills 99% of our needs with regards flashlights, so the drive to fill these needs is now lower, but the need for longer Runtime will unlikely be met as it`s not a finite quantity so there`s always room for improvement and expansion (and earning more dollars). the move from incan to Leds was driven by need, I can`t really see any need left in the flashlight world now other than better runtime.

They do now, and have for some time. It’s called lockout mode. Can’t get any simpler than 4 clicks

yes, it works great for adults, my 1 year old however, when he grabs my kr4, not only unlocks it, but messes up setting too, lol

100+ CRI and 100% efficient Leds
