Quad SST-20 Deep Red

Building a couple lights but I’m completely unsure of what driver to use on the deep reds. I have some FET+1 drivers on hand, would this push these emitters too hard? I’m unsure if Hank uses the KR4 driver in his deep red D4v2 builds. I don’t want to fry these on the first go around. Any help would be much appreciated. Also looking for the highest output with good CRI 3535 emitter available, it’s a 21700 build.

Thanks for the help,

I’m not sure how far the SST20-DR safely overdrive, but according to the datasheet, Imax (3A spec) should have a Vf of around 3.9V. These things have a very steep Vf curve though, and while I would have guessed a FET would surely overdrive these into a smoky death, I think they’ll be fine. I don’t think you could get more than 3.5A(ea) into these if you tried with a FET driver.

For the second part, “good CRI” is a phrase that’ll need more definition, especially around here. Some consider 80CRI and good tint to be perfectly fine, and others are obsessive and only accept R9>80 and negative Duv.
Also, you didn’t mention if this is a single or multi-emitter 3535 build.

LH351D is likely going to be recommended the most. SST20W, 219C, 219B are other obvious and good choices depending on what you specifically want.

CRI minimum? Tolerance to green/yellow tints? Preferred CCT?

Just found out there is a gen2 SST-20-DR.

Looks like its a much lower Vf variant with otherwise similar performance. This one should be avoided for a FET based application. Vf@3A is around 3.15V
