Looking for a 2000lm 10min sustainable light > I hate llumen marketing last year new lights

hello

i’m in the hobby since 2012 and i saw the new leds generations over the years XML, XML2 and now XML3
i’m a big fan of the MT G2  and XHP leds with high output opening the field of the 10k+ lights
But i’m also very disapointed with all the marketing. Now all the lights are 5000 or 9000lm on turbo for 15sec hahahah so useless

So i have watched all the reviews from ZEROAIR and 1LUMEN with the so helpful runtime graphs !!! these 2 guys are really helpful and their reviews very interesting and professional. thanks guys

My need for everyday use is a mid size light 100-180mm length and 40mm head max size
I love the sofirn IF25A form factor but can’t sustain 1200lm and my HAIKELITE SC26 can sustain 1200lm with my so loved MT G2

Every single review of the new 21700 lights are disapointing because lights can’t sustain 2000lm for 10 to 20min
Ok i understand that heat management is related to the head size directly and design (fins for heat dissipation) so the mid size will throttle the output sustainable power

So is there any light with 2000lm output for 10+min time???
The convoy M3 isn’t that bad with 3000lm for 2min and 1400 for 40min
The convoy 4X18 with the sodacan form factor is not really better (nor the Q8 flashlight)
The convoy M21B can sustain 1600lm for 20min !!! not bad

All the astrolux are useless…ok in the midsize i mean

Do you have any better ideas ?
I’ll try a mod of a M1 convoy host + SST40 or XHP50.2 with the head design i hope to get some decent ouptup

There aren’t many single cell lights lights that can sustain 2000Lm for a long time.
Even the Q8 can’t maintain that, unless you disable thermal stepdown.
Without thermal stepdown it will get burning hot

M1 host is to small for 2000lumens you need at least L2 or better L6

Yes i will nées more heat dissipation capacity head design

I also need to find the best eficient led over the sst40 xhp50.2 xml3…

Found this. It has a fair amount of cooling fins and should do about 2500lm but don’t know for how long.

Also, the NSX3 and NSX4 which should do over 2000lm for 10mins but are also very floody so keep that in mind. The temperature limit is set to 50°C which I guess is designed to prevent your hand from burning but also will limit the output if not kept cool.

Excellent i just Saw the one from kaidomain because i bought thé xhp50.2 3v here today.

I’m tale a look at neals nightwatch. There are a lot of fins ! Cool design .

I will try to find reviews.

Thanks

The first link I sent is the KDIY K5s. For some reason the link is broken so just search it instead.

Astrolux FT03 SST40 version can handle turbo (2200) for 15min+, you need to disable the thermal step down though

This time will always vary on temp depending on where you live.

Not sure if the FT03 is in the right size category but yh I’ve run it for 10 minutes. Can go longer but will get hot. If you’re outside which you probably will be with a throwy light, then continuous turbo shouldn’t be a problem…I think so anyway.

Is 1800 lumens for 86 minutes acceptable? Check out my Acebeam L35 review. It does that on high mode (ignoring turbo).

A bit lower than what you’re asking for but still very nice… in my testing the Convoy M21C-U started at 3811 and then dropped to 1409 after 4 minutes.

The zeroair review does not give the same results?! It can’t even sustain the high mode with standard thermal settings…
Well it is do big for my purpose 70mm head…

Acebeam L35 is quite good. A bit big than i was especting but specs are really interesting and in my 2000lm 10min+ crtiteria

All the nightwatch lights are sold out
too bad

Now that some of the MF01 Mini’s are coming with a brass plate from the factory, I bet it could do 2000 lm for 10 minutes. Here’s my testing with our custom copper plate before the manufacturer picked up on it:

If it can do 3500 for 4 minutes, I bet 2000 for 10 is within reason.

That review is wrong because he didn’t calibrate the thermal sensor first. The factory setting is always way off.

You first said 40mm max head size and then went onto mentioning the Convoy 4X18A which is the same diameter as the FT03

There’s a lot of reviews out there where they haven’t calibrated the sensor before a test. That’s for anything using Anduril or NarsilM

Yeah, I’ve learned to do thermal calibration as soon as I pull any Anduril light out of the box. Hopefully that won’t be necessary for much longer. I’m working with Sofirn to get them to use the new AVR 1-Series which has an accurate factory-calibrated thermal sensor.

I just put together 6 flashlights using a 1-Series and D4 V2 UI. No calibration done. After leaving them all sit on my table for a while, I picked them all up and did a temp check. Every one of them read 21°C. I think ambient temp was 20-21°C.

yes i said convoy 4X18A for comparaison of sustainabe output power
but the soda can form factor is a bit too large

oh great news! it could be useful for everyone here

i like the fact that chinese companies take feedbacks from final customers
a good way to improve the flashlight techs

the convoy M3 will probably do it, it has the Mass needed and will do your 2000lm for 10 mins (level 3) with some warming but nothing dangerous.
It`s a real workhorse.
