Got my first HID (beamshots added)

I'm officially HID-positive.

Received my 85w HID 'ebay' flashlight.

First impressions (still daylight here)

- it's big

- it makes a heavy buzzing sound when put on

- it's supposed to be 6000k but it seems to start up at 5500-6000k and than going to maybe 4500-5000 after using a while, but going up to 5500k now and then

- it's less bright than expected (if i unscrew the reflector and do the same with my sipik my sipik is same brightness when the HID is in lowest output...) but as i said it's still daylight here and i read some posts about people saying it gets brighter after using a few times

UPDATE: it's completely dark now and the difference with my other lights like the DRY is quite dramatic, now i can only hope it even gets bigger. Anyone knows about shifting color temperature? it goes from 5500 to 4500 back and forward it seems

Nice! How about a link so we can see what you got?

linked in my first post as well :)

at the moment my conclusion is: disappointed in output (even after 10 minutes running), hoping it improves. Nice seller, fast delivery

LOL, when I saw the title I thought maybe this community was getting a little to close and personal.

haha maybe i should change the title, just thought it was funny in maybe some twisted way :p just tell me if i offend someone, not my intention

Read on CPF about someone getting 3 times more throw using an olight sr 90 reflector on a ebay hid. Anyone has idea if this is correct, where to buy a (similar) reflector?

do you have a link to the cpf thread? I'll try it daily, repeatedly, until their site is up

DX has a BIG sst-90 reflector (+70mm) and KD a ?63mm.

post 5

just saw a sr 90 costs 500 so i guess reflectors are if available way too expensive :d

reflector of the HID is about 70mm i think

Does this fit in an ebay HID? The ebay hid reflectors also fill the available space in the head to the max except they seem to consist of the curved part of the reflector and a straight strip (closest to the lens).

If that's the case, how is the 90+mm reflector of the SR90 secured ?

actually i have no idea, i thought maybe the head of the sr 90 can screw on the HID. Gonna ask the original poster how he managed to do it once i can access CPF. Would love to get a bit more throw out of my HID (which smokes all my other lights anyways)

update: the guy just duck-taped the head of the olight in front of the ebay hid.

sorry, absolutely no idea...

but you could probably tell by measuring the stock reflector?

sipik vs 85w HID at 75m

Antenna 550m

Church 400m

Trees 150m

School 100m

That's a lot of light coming from that HID. I'd sure be happy with it. If you end up modding it with that SR-90 type reflector, that is really going to be one sick HID. Very nice!

the guy just ducktaped the sr90 reflector on top of his ebay HID :). Maybe one day they will manufacture some bigger heads or better overall reflectors for this HID, but for now only a custom made one would do the job i think. Still in pitch dark this hid will light up trees upto 300-400m, houses upto 600m and white objects i guess around 1000m. Very nice thrower but with a lot of flood and a beam angle of 180°

As you can see tint of 6000k gives quite good color rendering. The warmer the bulb gets, the more natural the tint gets: i would say from 6500 at early startup to about 4500-5000 (fluctuating a bit).

Quite a lot of light, other than far throwing (as compared to LEDs).

Seriously impressive light, my friend!
