A general macro test on P60 dropin

Just got my new inexpensive truly budget camera canon A1200. A simple point and shoot camera with options for some manual control.

I was amazed at macro performance for a camera in the budget entry level. Below my frist few shosts to get used to. I will get probably a little more out of it when i play with a little more.

On full auto, macro mode selected. Timer 2s and a mini 2usd tripod. Max resolution & cropped.

The candidate was an XM-L dropin from DD i had at hand.

I didn't pay much attention to details i just wanted to see what the camera handles by default.

Pretty impressed since i did not had any decent hopes for such price level.

For photography enthusiasts don't get over the histogram as i already know these are technically poor shots. But the detail is there.

Verdict. Useable macro on a budget is definitely possible.

Very impressive, I can't wait to see what you can do with it.

"But the detail is there."

A whole lot of it, I'd say.

Looks like ya got a little bit of dust on yer reflector there... Tongue Out

I really like the Canon budget consumer cameras; they take decent photos, but the biggest selling point is the AA use. No proprietary battery and charger you have to keep track of. You can use rechargeable, or if they go flat, then you can buy spare batteries from anywhere.

LOL, I thought you said macho test. Thought maybe you were going to eat one, or hook it up to a 12v car battery or something.

Yes sir, Canon makes a fine product for sure. I have been very pleased with my G9. Your detail is wonderful and the more you play with the lighting the better it will get. I have been wanting to build a light box for small items to have even light for macro use. Keep up the good work.

Hoping for detailed pictures of flashlights and other stuff along with the possibility to make decent beamshots. Unfortunately they would be no use to to compare with others as the aperture size and shutter speed can't be set manually.

Since the budget reviews are becoming more and more professional lately i wanted to step up in the quality department. I think good photography is highly appreciated in reviews. I know i like what Foy and some others do. It's rather poor to review something not being able to accurately show some details (good or bad). I needed a new camera anyway.

My older camera will be retired for a DIY budget night vision camera project when i figure out some minor details. ;) Nothing to lose since the focusing mechanism is broken which make ik almost unusable for general photography.

Indeed there is but it was previously unseen by my naked eye. Apparently i do not see that good as i tought.

I really did not want a li-ion camera. Pretty happy how eneloops work in this little one. Flash charging is really fast for one.
