Mill light : MT-G2 + Big alu sink for maximum runtime

Hello

I needed a good source of light for my mill so i used the head of an old haikelite light (boost driver dead)

I needed a glass with oring because of the liquid lubricant when milling so the head is perfect for sealing and the MTG2 a great LED
To get the best of this LED i need a big heat sink for long runtime with 100% output
I have a lot of aluminium 2024 (AW-AlCu4Mg1) in stock so i tried. the fins are not perfect because i needed to find the best cut parameters. Two first ones are not perfect but then i meet the perfect feed speed and go

I have machined the inner of the head to fit the heatsink where the mcpcb seat
Tested 20min @7V without any high temp. Just a small heat sensation when in hand…

That is awesome and very innovative use of flashlight parts. The mt-g2 has a nice beam for that so great choice. It’s amazing what you can do with a mill.

Noice! Love the MT-G2…

DROOOOOOOOOLLLLL! How I wish I had all that stuff to use……. one day someone will join on here and they will be 20 miles away from me and own all that lol……(in my dreams  )
Fantastic lights, well done! :+1:

Nice work. Should of entered it into the contest.

the second light source is under construction (there will be one from left and one from right so as there are no shadows)

this one will be the old XHP70 when i replaced the L6 with a new XHP70.2
the head is from an old thrunite flashlight
and aluminium from home stock
so i’ll have 2 lights 6V perfect for a 12PSU ! i have a small pot to adjust between 11 to 13V that”s perfect ! those leds drive some current my 2.8A psu could not supply so i need to measure but something like 3-4amp. The second psu i have is a 7amp so that’s perfect

It makes me sad that MT-G2 went out of style for the XHP line before compact 6V boost drivers became a thing. I would love to have a compact EDC with one of those in it.

ok fins done on the second light
i wait for the 7V meanwell power supply to arrive and i need to mill a holding support for the 2 lights.

ok all is working good !

i have one question could i use in series a MTG2 Led (6v) and a SST40 led (3V) with a 9v PSU ?
the leds have not the same current consumption….?! is it possible ?

Only only only if they take the same exact current, then you can put them in series as long as the supply has enough voltage for both.

If one runs at 3A and the other at 2A, you either run both at 2A with one being underdriven, or run at 3A and risk frying the other.
