Why do you need a EDC flashlight if you have your phone?

Your cell phone flashlight maybe be ok for basic daily lighting tasks, but it’s flood light with no throw, can’t illuminate things in the distance. And a dedicated edc flashlight is built expressly for providing light. It’s much brighter than your phone light, can also light wider range. For example, different lighting performance in the picture below: phone flashlight vs XTAR RC2-200 mid mode.

Besides, a flashlight is easy to use. You may have to unlock your phone and find the flashlight app in the dark, not very convenient when you compare it to the ease of turning on a flashlight with 1 single press.

Besides, a LED edc flashlight has a dedicated battery with long runtime whereas the phone is primarily designed as a phone and just has the perk of a light. The flashlight is going to drain phone’s battery , which is probably something you don’t want if you’re lost at night. What’s more, drop or lose your flashlight, maybe about $1–$50; Drop or lose your cell phone when using its flashlight, more money and time wasting…

How about your reasons of carrying a flashlight daily?

Light quality, power, ease of use, runtime, robustness. I’d feel silly to walk the dog with the smartphone flashlight, and I don’t think it’s wise to use it on a construction site, at car repair and so on.

You have a nice view in your appartement :+1: .

Thanks.
Yes, having a flashlight handy is never a bad thing.

because my phone can’t go from moon to above 2k lumens.

…if all the people only use phone flashlight, it won’t be long Xtar will be out of business!

So that people can bow before my unparalleled superiority when the power is out.

Because I don’t own a cell phone.

Because I’ll still be able to communicate with others when the battery in my EDC runs low.

Because the reversible clip and magnetized base of the EDC makes it ALOT easier to go hands-free when the situation calls for it.

Because…

I’ve broken phones and my flashlights have been far tougher overall.
I can put my flashlight in my mouth (probably not the safest thing to do but I’ll take the risk) and use my hands on a task.
My phone is getting old and doesn’t hold a charge as well as it used to so draining it by using the light isn’t wise.

Because I like heavy metal and my cellphone is made of plastic… :smiling_imp:

OR

Because I like to give that sensation of “I’m happy to see you” but my cellphone is flat

Speaking about small keychain EDC. It is easier to access, easier to turn on, has better beam profile and probably more power (in hi mode).

Because my cell phone does not make me feel a lot less depressed when I turn it on.

You sound like my wife .

“How about your reasons of carrying a flashlight daily?”

1. right now, it is Winter with too much dark.
2. it is small enough and bright enough.
3. stops kids from crying. really.
(select Low and shine it at the crier’s face. instant off switch)

Because a flashlight is more fun.

My cell phone is a great indoor light. I like the mule light. I even use my screen backlight on low to navigate the house sometimes. But I use a flashlight most of the time.

Because I have no use for a low CRI single emitter mule that is max brightness or nothing.

phone makes about 20 wide-flood lumens

any decent pocket 18650 can make from 1 to 1000 in a nice tighter/even brighter pattern

plus CRI
modes

i might use my phone light in the potty at night, that;s about it

Wow, what a waste of a good opportunity to handle one of your other lights.
