I suspect they are available from Wuben, but as you can see they aren’t going to last very long and once they stop making them, you won’t be able to get them.
To me this pen isn’t a pen at all, it’s a pretty pointless light, with a pretty pointless pen and other pointless bits that, lets face it, when you need you won’t have the correct ‘end’ in, the others will likely be at home in the drawer. To me it looks a kinda cool gadget, but is ultimately ‘jack of all trades , master of none’ and is basically a 5 minute play with toy. (not a cheap one either)
If it were $30 - $40 maybe, $69.99 or even $79.99 no, big no. If money is no limit, then go for it :+1:
Their TP10 seems a much better buy to me, at least it seems to use a freely available refill, which will actually last for more that 1 week, plus it’s a more reasonable $29.
I completely agree with your assessment. It looks like a tacticool pen. It also looks heavy and oddly shaped. I once bought an UZI pen that could be used as a window punch and kubaton. Neat looking but impractical for writing. It wouldn’t fit in the pen holder built into my uniform pocket either. The ink cartridge sucked, but it was way too heavy for a writing instrument. There was no use looking for a smoother refill. I paid a heck of a lot less than $70, though. A $20 failed experiment was a lot easier to stomach than a $70 one would be.
The refills in the Wuben pen look impractical. I am not sure why flashlight manufacturers design pens that don’t use standard refills. I guess Wuben should describe this as an EDC tool/torch that also has emergency writing capabilities. It’s primary function is not to be a writing instrument. I am very interested in the product, but I think the price is 3 to 4 times too expensive for me to try. I really like the concept. I think it needs some refinement.
Yeah I agree with this assessment. It’s a cool toy but if the pen is that bad, I can’t justify carrying it. For me, the appeal of a pen+light would be that I could reasonably justify carrying the ben in business settings. The E61 seems like it would run out of ink in a single meeting - and they can talk about the inkless pen as much as they want, but there’s a reason I haven’t seen inkless pens showing up at Target. Sounds like it’s marginally more effective than just pressing really hard with a ballpoint pen and reading the indentations off the paper.
The TP10 you mentioned is cute - it has the standard 10180 light shoehorned onto the end of a pen and looks like it’s not that awful. Of course, I’m still out of pen money after I spent the next 5 years of my writing implement budget on that Astrolux titanium bolt-action in 2019…
I’m almost on the edge of buying a TP10 - there is a review on here. link I also found them for sale on Aliexpress for $24.64 - link
Just wanted to show it uses a pretty regular refill - you can even use a ‘Parker’ one, of which there are numerous other copies which would fit. I also like (not that I’d ever use it, I hope) that the glass breaker is hidden under the flashlight end cap - it’s there if you need it. Looks like you could also completely remove the flashlight end and use it… as a flashlight, which to me is far more useful.
Despite some aspects I mentioned in my review , refill issue included (making it more usefull as a light or “tool” than a pen), it still can be used in some “conditions” that others can’t:

But I do agree with some aspects mentioned here, both functionality and price, specially.
Other than that, it is Wuben quality graded!
I just realised I have all the stuff here to make one out of brass……… spares and a different driver left over from my OL build!
I now have some small tir optics too, and an sst20 on a tiny board. Now to find a 10180 battery (or similar)…… seems like a good plan for next years OL Dunno if I can wait that long now thee idea is in my head though.
