Sofirn BLF LT1 Lantern: Cheap Hockey puck base

Here’s an inexpensive and easy mod for your LT1 lantern. It adds a larger base made of rubber that won’t scratch surfaces. The weight of the rubber puck lowers the centre of gravity of the lantern. I prefer the feel of the lantern with the puck attached.

Instructions: Drill a 1/4” hole through the centre of the puck. Then on one side, drill a 3/8”hole all about 1/2”deep-this will be the recess for the head of the bolt. Insert a quarter inch bolt of the right length. The bolt should be held firm by the rubber and a the lock nut should not be required . That’s it !

You may want to drill a hole larger than 1/4 inch, the idea is that the bolt screws into the rubber and it might be tight if it’s 1/4 inch.

Note: I built my puck base the hard way by inserting 1/4” bolt connecter, then a short 1/4” stud. This method is not recommended.

It does make the lantern heavier, but that doesn’t bother me because I’m not a backpacking camping person and if I was - I wouldn’t buy an LT1 because its weight.

I see on walmart.com, they have fluorescent glow in the dark pucks which might be fun to try.
