Hello from NW Washington!

Hello everyone! Long time flashlight lover, and I have certainly found my way onto this wonderful pool of resources many times as I do my research on lights in general.

I’ve owned a couple of Zebralights for the last 7 or so years, starting first with the SC600 II, then moving on to a Mk III when the Mk II had been used hard enough to start chew through my pants pockets thanks to some rough edges. Now the Mk II is the designated work light, and the Mk III has been my EDC light for the last several years now.

Recently though, thanks to a fellow flashlight enthusiast at work, I have been introduced to the Anduril interface, which has solved many of my chief complaints with the very good, but sometimes quirky Zebra interface. Namely that changing brightness can be a pain, and that I often ended up wanting to start the light in the hard to reach medium brightness, which on my lights is either a click and hold or a double click.

Once that can of worms got opened up, I went on a bit of a frenzy. I ended up buying a FireFlyLite E01, which I have loved so far. Then I ordered up two Sofirn SC31 Pro lights, one for me and one for the girlfriend who has been wanting a new work light. Then we discovered the Lumintop GT Nano, and that light was just such a neat little thing that we both ended up ordering one of those.

Not long after that, I discovered that the Emisar D4SV2 was available again and ended up ordering a couple of those (again, one for each of us. It really is nice how much I can get away with ordering lights as long as I get her one too!)

Once I showed off the GT Nano to people, it became apparent that they would make wonderful gifts for the fellow nerds in my life, so I had to get a couple more of those on order for some upcoming birthdays, which of course meant that I was looking for other lights to add to the order to “justify the shipping”

Now there are several lights on the way, and the most recent order will contain a Convoy S12 so I can start playing around with modding lights. I’ll just start with the basics, emitter swaps and driver swaps for the most part, and the convoy ecosystem seems to have a lot of readily available options for both drivers and emitters, which makes it easy. I am comfortable with a soldering iron and just got a new soldering station as a matter of fact. I have never done any reflow work though, so I’ll be staying away from raw LEDs for the moment and just buying populated PCBs instead. However, I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to circuit design and such for now, so I have to rely on someone else’s hard work to provide me with pre-made solutions until I learn more. I would like to start working on some more “ground-up” flashlight builds as well, starting with a host, then finding the correct driver and emitter, and putting it all together, but at first I’ll just start modding lights with readily available parts and a lot of working room as I get comfortable.

Anyway, I’ll have to get the collection together and get some pictures as more lights arrive to my doorstep, but the collection is about to start growing rapidly! Looking forward to building cool lights, buying cool lights, and learning more about electronics in the process!

Nice! I got into this the same way…just started tinkering then it got out of hand. You will find that there is no end to the rabbit hole of building, buying, modding, and selling. Convoy is a great place to start for sure. Really easy to mod and source parts for them. For US-based parts, mountain electronics is the place. 1 week shipping instead of 1 month or more from China. The industry has changed a lot in 7 years!

For sure! I found them first when I went on the hunt for some good 26650 and 26350 batteries, but rest assured I have been perusing their site a LOT the last week or so as I am looking into potential mod and build ideas!

Thanks for joining the gang, KiyoKatu!

Welcome to BLF KiyoKatu

Neutral White Washington ?

You know, I do like neutral white, maybe a bit on the cool side, though I might like warm white on occasion... I'm still acquiring more lights to discern my taste in color temperature!

(and I suppose with the current rain-prone weather, the sky could definitely be described as "Neutral White" in the day time)

Welcome to BLF from the NE corner of Washington.
