[FIXED] Olight magnetic charger died. Can it be fixed?

Update in post #7

My favorite charger stopped working today. The led indicators do not light up, the voltage on the battery does not change. The voltage at the plug is there. I don’t know much about chargers, but nothing looks burned. Any ideas?

Contact olight. Their warranty is pretty good.

Product has been opened, I guess it voids their warranty… Oops

I don’t have any solution for you Chatika! Those chargers are still on sale, but less and less…

So far, Olight has been extremely generous with their warranty. So I would reach out to them anyway, and see if they can help.

Olight has a lifetime guarantee? I bought it over three years ago.

Normally the flashlights have 5 years warranty, I believe the other items too, as said here:

I was about to write to Olight, but something hit me to check the connections. It turned out that the usb port lost connection with pcb. This is “+” I guess. I take this charger almost everywhere and it probably just broke off.

And that's one of the reasons I refuse to buy any gadgets using proprietary batteries/ cables / chargers etc.

Only that this charger is meant for normal li-ion and NiMH batteries, if it’s the UC. Wink

Preciselly that!!

In this case what Penny wise but Lumen foolish said makes no sense.
The UC charger is not a specific product attached to a type of battery or flashlight. Also, it does not charge some of the proprietary battery that Olight makes Silly
Also, when I was talking about opening the product, it was not opening the package, but “dismanteling” the item (charger in this case).

Chatika, I’m glad you made it work again Wink

I have the same charger and it stopped working about 6 months ago. I rarely used it, less than 10 times, and never got around to tossing it. I emailed Olight yesterday and will post what the results are in the future. If they don’t get back to me I’ll take it apart and see if the same connection is broken.

Apologies, I assumed the OP was talking about one of the proprietary magnetic Olight flashlight chargers.

Got a response back from Olight and according to them this charger only comes with a 1 year warranty. Time to take it apart I guess Big Smile

I managed to fix my charger by hitting both sides of the board with a hot air gun and also pressing down on the USB feet with my soldering iron. Guess there must have been a non-visible broken connection somewhere on the board.

And I was just about to toss it in the garbage Cool

Oddly similar to the problem Chatika had with his.

you magnet part is fine, right? it is the usb side with charging board inside that died, there are many usb charging boards on ebay, i used several of those, they work pretty good, you can replace yours with it, and use a usb plug from some other usb wire and solder it to the new board, it wont look as good as oem but it’ll work

The magnet side was fine and it had to be something on the board since the red light would occasionally flicker when I wiggled it. I bought a hot air reflow station the other day so I decided to heat everything up and at the same time hit the USB feet with my soldering iron. After doing that it’s been working perfectly Smile

I should have hit the USB feet last week when I had it apart but at this point it’s academic.

The charging boards from Ebay, etc are either only for NiMh or Li-Ion aren’t they? The advantage of the Olight is that it works for both types.
