B or F bombs?

Depends which side you are looking…

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

This is an effect of ‘wishful thinking’ as known in psychology, right? Never though it would be so strong that it overrides knowledge.

well F me

Wishful thinking is more like ’ i hope i win the lotto’

They call it mcgurk effect here. not sure of the exact term but it’s basically your ‘intuition’ built from repeat experiences in memory that your brain forms a expectation.
It also happens with basically everything you do in life.

Sure, that’s everyday language. It’s a bit strange it was used for all sorts off illusions (see especially ‘wishful seeing’ in the following article).

Makes me think there are similar mechanisms behind those illusions. Maybe some kind of error correction based on prior knowledge or experience failing.

Wonder if that explains some song lyrics. I still wanna know what’s a “pompatus of love”…

With my compromised hearing, I am accustomed to watching the lips. Honestly, when the guy claims he’s saying “ba” while moving his lips like one would say “fa,” I don’t see how that lip movement is capable of making “ba.” When I myself try to say “ba” that way, it sounds more like “fa” to me. That is not a natural way to produce a “b” sound and it doesn’t come out with the harsh, hard beginning of a “b”. So I call ‘fullsh’ on this guy.

That’s why you think it’s fa. The audio is dubbed onto the fa-sequence.

When there’s a song with hard to understand lyrics, just someone suggesting their own version of lyrics that sounds close and thats what you’ll hear.
No video needed

Yeah, like “Stairway To Heaven”. Still trying to figure out what’s the meaning of

And if you listen very hard, / The Jew will come to you a lot.

What??

And wotnahell’s a “pompatus of love”?

If you listen very hard it will mean whatever you want it to.

Unno. I’ll have to ask my pompatus…

Ask Rick Sanchez, he invented the plumbus too.

When you hear bands from the UK, most of the time they sound like Americans with no english accent.

All I hear is “Ba”, as well as the narrator talking when I am trying to listen.

Fah, humfug!

Unno, lotta times they just sound funny.

'Cause *sheeeeee* doesn't liiiike it, (daaaah-dah-dah)<br/>*Stop* the catbox! *Stop* the catbox!

Like… okay.

Theeere’s a bathroom on the right!

Great scientific discussion here. Let me join.

Could it be mirror neurons simulate forming the mouth to pronounce a fa with an actual acoustic impression that overrides the sound you hear?

So…you don’t even understand any concept of this, do you?
