I'm going to get an Imalent MS18, any MS18 owners here?

As the topic says im going to get the Imalent MS18 , are there any MS18 owners here who can tell me how reliable the flash light is in the long run (i.e after few monthes or even after 1-2 years maybe), just want to make sure it doesnt stop working after 1-2 months or so after spending a substantial amount of money for a flash light?

Hello ! Welcome to BLF ! I’m one such MS18 owner, the light hasn’t failed me yet I used it on and off during the summer except 2020 due to lockdowns just to turn parks to daylight owned it since 2019.

Thanks, That’s good to hear! if using it in the turbo mode, do you recharge it immediately after use ?

Define use, I generally don’t recharge it after each use as it doesn’t really NEED to and I don’t just leave it on turbo all the time just bursts here and there for fun pretty much ANY of the lower modes are more than enough to light a small area.

Yeah the lower modes on the MS18 is still powerfully bright. With the turbo mode which lasts 60 seconds, does the torch go into the lower mode because it needs to cool down or because the battery power has reduced?

From my use its due to the heat produced and not being cooled fast enough.

Got it! I hear it also comes with 5 years warranty, do you know what that does/doesn’t cover?

did you get the R90TS / head with it too and if so is it worth getting?

Just enter “Imalent warranty” in the “search”box in the upper left corner of this page.
I think that you need to replace the word “what” by the word “if”.
Mind you: people generally keep quiet when everything goes oki-doki, but nevertheless ……

Generall speaking: almost every light in this forum is manufactured in China.
If things go bad, you’ll see a gap in the meaning of words, definitions, and timezones. Or: silence.
Warranty can be denied because you bought from an un-autorised dealer.
Repairs have to be done in China. Even if those are free, shipping will cost you an arm and a leg.

Advice: buy a light you can afford to loose. Or buy a light you (or someone you know) can repair.
It is pretty much like buying a car. You don’t buy a dragster, just to over-wow the neighbours once.

I understand, but as long as the 1 years manufacturers warranty is there and you’re ok with the shipping charges (only costs £15 or so to send from UK to China) when dealing with repairs, i can’t see too much going wrong?

I bought both the MS18 and the R90TS from a USA modder who can repair them if need be. I have them for a year and a half; no problems have arisen. They are both Kings of their classification. The MS18 has no other light in its class. The R90TS is not so lonely; I have two BLF GT94 to keep it company.

They both have normal modes for normal run time, and I also have smaller flashlights, too.

good to hear, what does the R90TS fulfill which the MS18 lacks in, by the way?

I know you buy al lot (if not most) of your stuff from Vinh. But I consider him to be in a leage of his own. Vinh mods lots of lights. And improves output AND overall quality. Above all: he honors his warranty. I would even buy a 3*AAA tactical zoomie from Vinh (if I could afford it).
The real question is: would you recommend a newbie to buy a regular MS18 from a regular seller?
To me, buying a flashlight from Vinh can’t be compared with buying any MS18 from any other seller.

If you think of buying an MS18 from any other seller but Vinh, type “Imalent & warranty” in the searchbox

What does he mod within the flash light and would buying brand new from any old Imalent MS18 reseller be the same as buying a stock model from Imalent themselves hence there’s no greater risk than buying from the manufacturer’s themselves?

Does anybody have any viewed as to whether getting the MS18 (cold white light) or MS18W (warm white light)?

The warm one will have less backscatter, so you can probably see better at distance with it. Also warm light is generally nicer to look at. Still, I think getting a warm white MS18 might be missing the point a little, and this is coming from a tint snob.

For the reasons mentioned the MS18 might be a tiny bit brighter to the naked eye hence im just going to go for that.

Check very carefully the terms and conditions first.

You might be required to get full door-to-door tracking which might cost lots more than what you cited. And if not fully tracked, they might simply claim they never got it.

All this has happened, as people here cited (which is only how/why I recall any of this).

I’m all for the “warranties are generally useless” school of thought because of all those stipulations which can make even in-warranty repair cost almost or even more than the cost of the light itself.

Same as far as buying any pricey phone, laptop, teevee, etc., from any non-local vendor. I can go and make a ruckus at the store if need be, and I have a place to serve papers if I need to take them to court. From a distant vendor, all they have to do is ignore your emails. Good luck suing them, etc.
