looking for a specific laser pointer

I have a green laser pointer already, but it shuts down below about 10 degrees C or 50 Fahrenheit. I’d like to get one that has these features:

  • works down to approximately zero C (32 F)
  • takes 1-2 AA, AAA, or li-ion batts
  • preferably green, but red would be okay
  • preferably a basic cylindrical shape
  • preferably made of metal

Does anyone know of such a model?

You need a non dpss laser. Are you looking for something legal in most places and eye safe or something that can blind you but will look cooler? That’s the unfortunate trade off of lasers.

Edit: oh hey, you’re in Canada. Well anything over 1mW is technically illegal to have in public in most cities and around airports without a specific reason. The beam of a 1mW laser really isn’t too visible. Anything 5mW or under is still legal to import into Canada. Anything over 5mW is not illegal to sell/import/manufacture but legal to posses in private.

Thanks Sunnysunsun. I’d never heard of DPSS til now. You’re right, that seems to be what I’d want.

Yeah I’d prefer something legal and eye safe, but I wouldn’t mind trying a more powerful one too. Maybe I’d get both, depending on price.

I quickly tried searching for non dpss laser pointer on amazon and ebay, and the only hit I got was one laser module with wires, but I want to buy the whole pointer, not build my own.

I’m not actually sure where to get a properly calibrated, eye safe, <5mW, not 532nm laser.

For something more powerfull Sanwu is a good place to check out.

Be aware that they are dangerous and will instantaneously blind you before you can blink if the beam or even a specular reflection enters your eyes.

The real danger they pose is why Health Canada rightly prohibits lasers above 5mW

Unfortunately all the green cheap eBay lasers are 532 DPSS ones, and they are underrated power wise.
