Eurekatronix is alive!

It appears that the Clemence’s new store has finally some stuff in stock and accepts orders.
519A for a buck and B35AM for 2? Nice.

Excellent :smiling_imp:

But there is no PCPCBs yet for B35AM. Shipping is free, I wonder if that’s actually the case or a mistake.

edit : B35AM 9080 are 4.5$ not 2

70 CRI is $2 but 9080 are 4.50. Still a reasonable price if they perform well IMO. I heard back from them and they said that it behaves much like a e21a quadtrix but with obvious optical and packaging advantages.

I’m honestly about to just order them now and make my own DIY mounting boards… My thought is take a copper disc (from Bopper on Etsy) and neatly cut it with a hand saw down the middle. Then take the same Ø aluminum disc, anodize it until I get Megaohms resistance through it clamped tightly between two copper discs, then thermal epoxy them together with high clamping forces. Centering and soldering will be a SOB, but a properly sized PTFE washer should do the trick to hold it in place during reflow. I’ll try and get the wires pre-soldered on at that time too. I don’t see why it wouldn’t perform the same or better from a thermal perspective than a Virence board.

Oh BTW! I don’t know if anyone else has seen/heard, but the new 4sevens/Prometheus Quark is using a hot of the press 319A with 90CRI! Don’t know how long Nichia will continue to produce it, and I asked Eukatronix if they knew about it and if they could source it. Hoping to hear back. :innocent:

Just tried to place an order and it fails at the moment. Trying a 4500 and 3500K B35 and going to compare to a sliced 144 5700K.

Also noticed a ?new? picture of the emitter glowing at 10mA. Pretty cool to get this kind of detail up front with a new-to-BLF emitter.

I’d guess it’d have at least sliced “dot two” XHP levels of donut holes/ violet spots/ etc. Knowing how severe the angular tint shift of the ExxA emitters are I wouldn’t be surprised to see the same here. A medium/narrow mixing optic seems like a perfect mate to this.

First time I’ve seen 319b for sale!

If Clemence doesn’t have the new MCPCBs when he starts accepting orders I think VR16SP4 could be used by removing a bit of solder mask :

There would be small lines without copper in between the copper zones but it would probably be okay.

That said making a MCPCB from scratch could maybe have higher thermal capabilities than any non DTP MCPCB, the aluminium doesn’t need to be sandwiched between copper though, just one relatively thick (1~1.4mm) layer of copper on top so that the heat is well spread before the interface with the bottom anodized 0.5~0.2mm aliminium layer.

Another option would be using a driver with a grounded LED cathode so that it can be DTP, but high side current sensing require more components than the simpler low side sensing, well just one more IC, so not too bad. But we would still need copper core raw PCBs and I never found any, only aluminium core PCBs.

I knew I should’ve reworded that. I didn’t mean the final probuct would be Cu-Al-Cu, just that I would I would use that as a verification step to make sure the Al was adequately anodized. Final board would be 1.6mm copper on top of .5mm Al

Good thought on the use of the existing board… hadn’t considered that one. I they were cheaper I’d probably risk it, but I already have a shortage of quadtrix boards for all the emitters I have

Understood. Do you have references for thermal epoxy/glue? By coincidence I found a nice 1mm copper plate with mirror surface when tearing down a PSU, I also snatched some 0.8mm anodized aluminum from PC case accessories (I do have the materials for anodising but I feel a bit lazy to do it :weary: ). So I though why not.

Something Like this I suppose, 165°C max operating temp and 200°C peak, should be enough for low temp solder reflow.

Mounting with screws might be a bit problematic, since they would need to be isolated from the coper layer, maybe make some larger hole in the copper and only screw down on the alu.

I was just going to give the MG chemicals Thermal Epoxy a shot. Don’t know if it’ll hold up but that’s what I have on hand. I’m hoping to have really flat surfaces and rely on that and letting the epoxy set while clamped in a vise. I was going to use https://www.mcmaster.com/91145A129/ to isolate the screws.

Checking from time to time, it seems that he has received some of the new MCPCBs since it shows photos instead of renders. Still can’t order though :frowning: I really want to test those B35AM.

Is the Eurekatronix store closed?

The ERKX webpage is not available and shows only a hosting provider placeholder (" Looks like this domain isn’t connected to a website yet")

Are LEDs still available from Clemence, and if so, how long are the delivery times?

I haven’t been able to get a hold of him for two months, usually he’s relatively responsive with me. He tends to have periods of ”unresponsiveness”, although usually not that long.

My last email from him is also around 2 months, from July 26. That is pretty unusual tbh, hopefully the store hasn’t closed.

I also haven’t been able to get a response from him since May. I have about a $1,000 order for flashlight mods that I already paid him over a year ago. :sob:

Wow.

So I will not order from him, too risky.

I hope someone can tell me what happened to him. It is not like him. He used to be a reliable seller and I trusted him with such a big sum of money. I even Paypaled money to him as Friend and Family… Sigh…

That’s crazy that he ghosted you on a $1000 order. I was personally hesitant making a $50 order after his site disappeared, and then reading about some other issues. I ended up just paying more and ordering some E21A emitters from Hank, at least I know I’ll receive them. Unfortunately, I guess I’ll have to live with Seoul SunLike and Bridgelux Thrive emitters in place of Optisolis for my mule.

Well I paid him over a year ago when his website was still up. He did mods for me in the past so I trusted him. I don’t want to assume he is ghosting me intentionally because I don’t know what actually happened to him. If anyone has been able to contact him within the last 3 months, please post.

I had been communicating with him from July 10 up until August 8. He said he still had the 219B, 519A, E21A and Optisolis emitters I was interested in and sent me a price list.

Good to know. Then he was intentionally ghosting me
