The New Dereelight DBS V3 XR-E R2 EZ900 Aspehrical Came Today

This one looks very nice and no nicks. Thank you Jay at Flashlight Connection for doing this for me.

Edit-I deleted photos because I no longer have this light. Sorry.

I wanted to add that this one still is a 3SM pill, but I had Jay modify it to where it stays on max brightness as long as the head is fully tightened. If you loosen the head, then it has the 3 modes of low, medium and high. I like it better this way. And really there is only one mode for a thrower light like this and that is max brightness or high.

Great! Can't wait to see those infamous beamshots! I bet it can't get dark fast enough, eh?

+1! Looks great, ILF. I sure do wish I had your flashlight budget! LOL

Well trust me this boy is gonna slow down some now. I got other priorities.

And just so you know that light has the 18650 extender tube on it.

So this would actually be the DBS-T rather than V3 right?
Looks nice. If you get a chance sometime could you post a picture of the light without the extension tube?
Thanks.

Very nice addition for the king of throw! Can't wait to see some more pics at night.

Come on Brad!! Update with beams please.

I have seen those heads for sale for around $40 or so, long shot but.. do they screw on to a Solarforce L2?

I told you guys wrong.

Here's what Jay told me he sent me.

I went ahead and sent a new DBS-T M Aspherical (XR-E EZ900 1.5 amp) flashlight to you. This will give you single mode capability as well as a 3 mode sub-group. In essence, it'll act the same as the 3SM that you returned when the head is loosened 1/2 turn, and will be a single mode (High only) light when the head is snug.

nice to see another BLF'er with this amazing light and the 1.5amp pill.

if my TK41 cant reach it, this will. plus the wow factor it brings when showed to non-flashaholics.:)

have the old 1.2amp and this newer 1.5amp pill. Vinhnguyen54 has the 2.1amp for sale. ordered one also. he's really pushing the limits of the xre !

Viffer750 tested the whole output curve at various amps. 2.1amp would not do nothing to output on a normal MCPCB, in fact it decreases it a little. It hits the limit at 1.5-1.6A.

Unless you do direct copper to LED bonding, or peltier cooling.....or you went out to test during the recent Europe cold snap at -40 deg C. :) I am not sure, but seriously i don't think it is direct-to-LED bonded. (extremely difficult to do)

You can play with the LED calculator here. Play with various currents, and then play with different values for heatsinking. As long as you can get the LED junction to be like below 150 deg C, you can still get more output. The heat concentrated at that very small emitter juncture is preventing more light to be generated. Hence when you actively cool the light which also brings the temperature at the emitter juncture down, you get more output. Simple logic. :)

I can't seem to find Viffer750's youtube vid!

Oh..here it is

Brad(ILIKE),

Getting a compliment like that from Foy would be like winning a GOLD MEDAL!!!!

We all appreciate your awesome beamshots.

I’ll be a nag nagging a nagger
I think he is using it in the “look at this badboy” sense. In that case infamous it would be acceptable don’t you think?

Thanks Foy. I appreciate it.

But I admit I'm still puzzled with this picture taking and I for sure don't want to overmagnify what my beamshots are actually doing and I apparently may have done just that. I will explain. And I told Rick I don't know what to do or should I even bother posting pictures to avoid this if I am in fact guilty but it's not because I am trying to be. I have tried doing the manual setting thing and what some others in another thread suggested to me. I just can't seem to get the manual setting to not underscore the beamshots at farther distances like 200yd or 350yds. I have had some luck with the manual setting up close at 60yds. And I do sometimes think my shots at 60yds or even 200yds in nite mode may be overstating what I see with my eyes. But like I told Rick the last thing I want to do is mislead anyone on here. So I am sort of at a lost for words and what to in fact do or what I may need to do to get pictures that are more legit. So I plan on holding off on the picture taking and experiment some more with my camera. I do know at 350yds the nite mode seems to pretty much be what I almost see with my eyes. And you got to remember I usually zooom in to about 9 power so the camera sees better than my eyes.

I have the same light and got it from Jay. One hell of a thrower. I don't think he did anything special for you in regards to the driver. They all are like that, including mine. Now you need an armytek predator. That will stop your light buying craze for sure....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I heard salibuster state their is no use in pushing the xre beyond 1.7amps.

ILKE -

Oh man . . . this is totally my bad for screwing up this thread. I was referring to the incorrect use of the word "infamous," nothing more. I was merely pointing out that using the word "infamous" to describe something means that the thing being described is famous for being bad . . . and that I assumed Garry's meaning was the opposite.

Nothing that I said was negative about you or your beam shots, nor was it meant to be. I was innocently pointing out the correct definition of a word used by Garry. I did'nt mean to offend him or you. I incorrectly assumed my off-topic comment would be a brief detour, as is very often the case on this casual board.

Again; my comments were specifically about Garry's use of a word.

I'm sorry Garry - I regard you highly on this forum.

I'm sorry ILIKE - I have no problem with you or your beam shots and I don't remember ever offering an opinion either way. Like you, this whole flashlight thing is a learning process and I am far from being anything close to an expert. As enthusiasts, we post what we do and as our knowledge grows we post again. It doesn't mean the earlier post was necessarily wrong. I hope there are no hard feelings, as there certainly are none felt by me.

It might be best if I bow out and remove my OT posts.

Foy

Foy, What I said had nothing to do with what you said here. So don't think it did or I took what you said the wrong way. I have had some others on here question the authenticity so to speak of my beamshots and how bright they look. And that has been weighing on my mind as of late, and they in fact may be right. Heck even I sometimes question them especially the 60, 70 and 200yds shots I like to shoot. I guess I'm going to have to find either a good manual setting or just be done with taking the pictures altogether for I can't seem to apparently do that so far. And I just want to be truthful with my beamshots, and when you don't know for sure that you are or aren't well you get the picture. So I'm just going to hold off for awhile until I feel comfortable with what I am posting to be legit. All I ever wanted to do was try and show some decent looking beamshots. I actually enjoyed trying to do that in the past. Now I just don't know if its worth it.
