What is going on with 40t's?

My go to battery supplier (18650batterystore.com) got 40t’s in stock finally after about a month and they sold out today. I didn’t check if they had them yesterday, but i did two days ago which means they sold out in a maximum of 48 hours.

Frustrating, but i know everyone is in the same boat so i guess i’m not complaining, i guess just kicking myself because i didn’t buy them earlier today, I waited until after work like a fool.

Anyway, does anyone know whats up with the extremely limited supply lately? Not to mention the price has gone up %50 this year.

I guess I’m just going to switch all of my new stuff to Molicel p42a, they are pretty much just as good i’ve read, and $4 cheaper.

This is just pure speculation but maybe they’ve stopped producing them or are producing less due to the release of the 50S which is pretty close in performance and has 25% more capacity. Once the 50S supply issues get sorted, I don’t see why anybody would want to buy the 40Ts anymore. I hope they come up with a 40S to replace it.

The P42A is almost as good. A bit less output on the E07 compared to the 40T but nothing the human eye would notice.

We have a bit of shortage going on right now. Sony and Panasonic had production issues in their factories due to the pandemic, which means that the rest of the market got gobbled up mostly by big clients like the car industry. Small battery sellers don’t really have the pull to get their hands on enough batteries at the moment.

I’ve waited 2 months for batteries from Battery Junction that were finally shipped this past week. The Samsung 50E 21700 batteries in the order caused the delay.

But I was fine with the delay due to the great price I got the batteries for. That, and I have plenty of other flashlights and batteries to hold me over.

Wish I could get my hands on a 50S or two

I think the demand is through the roof. Not from flashlights but from everything in general. Imagine, Panasonic/Sanyo recently opened a battery factory in China.

Thanks for the info! thats kind of what i was wondering, meaning the rest of the market, but i just couldnt believe my go to vendor sold out in a day. No worries, i found another supply :+1:

Yea, ive been following the 50s a bit, but at this point with how hard it is to get 30t and 40t due to every other industry sucking them up, i feel like it will be a year before 50S is a thing that trickle’s down to the flashlight world, and by then ill have sold or need to replace half my batteries anyway lol. I am still hesitant on the hype of it coming close to a 30 amp (35 amp @ 80degree cutoff) amp battery at 5000mah. I mean i saw the thread, and i trust Tom E undoubtedly, but i mean 30amps at 5000mah at least doubles anything else on the market right now at 5000mah. Just seems “Unbelievable”? I don’t know, im sure its true. But like i said, i havent seen one for sale and they have been “around” for 6+ months, and i check battery sites a couple times a week at minimum. Almost as much as flashlight sites.

yea, i dont know why i’m complaining really, i own a dozen 40t’s and (8) p42a’s among a couple other random 21700s, so i’m good with what i need for my lights. I just have this weird thing that i always want 4 backups. maybe i have a problem? LOL.

What’s that saying?….“better to have and not need, than need and not have”….
I’ve been going through a bit of a ‘panic buy’ spurt over the last few weeks, myself. Stands to reason the supply will likely be thin for the foreseeable future with all the push for EV production. That coupled with labor force disruptions from the “pandemic”, and imminent scarcity of raw materials due to increased demand, it could be dicey for a while. May not be a theory based in actuality, but I’m operating under that assumption for now. The bigger problem for me is, does the excessive inventory of cells create an excuse to buy more lights to store them in??? :smiling_imp:

Hm, you should also stack a supply of toiletpaper. Because the missus will kick the $* out of you when she finds out where all the money has gone. :confounded:
