Tesla model 3 2170s

What’s the word on these? They look great for medium drain lights, and the price is right, but I don’t see much talk about them.

well, you’d need a crashed Model 3, an insurance company to sell it, a pull-a-part to offer it afterwards and someone to buy the vehicle and salvage the cells. (or a scenario comparable to this)
Someone like Rich Rebuilds might have access to these things, or similar companies.
I haven’t seen any low quantity cells offered anywhere in the US or the EU.

Techdirectclub.com has them in various quantities.
Specs say 15A max, 10A sustained.

I purchased 150 of these back when they were $62 /25 with cell holders ( never cycled from defective battery packs- they test as new 4750-5000 mah ) —- From my testing with my Sphere they come close to a Samsung 40T in full charge performance — they outperform the 40T substantially in the 3.9 — 3.5 volt range

I’ve built battery packs for Power Wheels — Razor Scooters— they produce some power —- I’m running a E300 Razor scooter at 36 volts —it hits 26 mph — kind of shaky on those 10” tires

I’m surprised these are available – but I guess, salvaged from uncycled (defective) packs or stuff like that makes sense. As things are, I don’t think Tesla sells any cells, they all go into cars (or those wall-pack things, or whatever)

Partial quote from BHU description…..“The cells are professionally cleaned, tested, wrapped, and most importantly the positive cap is added which allows you to spot weld these cells just like any other cell.”

Ordered 3 from techdirectclub.com. never heard of that site, but if I get burned it’s only $12 anyway. Good price if they work out.

I had some and they tested at about 4800mAh.
The Samsung/Vapcell 50G is better.

Sure, but can they be purchased for a bit over $4 a pop?

Free shipping. Cost was $12 all in. $4 a pop for 50G performance, I’ll take it. But Mooch cautioned that there’s a wide variance in their performance, I guess depending on their salvage history.

What threw me a curve with these cells was their middle voltage output—-I stumbled upon it by chance — I had several at storage voltage ( 3.82v) and did some amperage test in a single cell quad light (fet driver) —- the output in amperage and lumens were not that far off from a 40T that was around 4.08 v —- after doing Full charge test and around 80 % charge test I realized the Model 3 outperformed the 40T in the below 3.95 v range — also these cells when doing a capacity test hold a majority of their capacity above 3.45 volts

Any idea if these would be genuine Tesla Model 3 21700? (one of them indicates “LDTSL ZS48T”)

Based on my capacity test results (using SkyRC MC3000, charge to 4.20v, discharge down to 2.50v at -0.75A discharge current), I get around 4700+mAh capacity on them.
AC IR measures to around 11.9mOhms at around 3.70v (shipped voltage is around 3.70v)

Looks like Model 3 to me —The 3 marks on the neg end —— I haven’t discharged that low —my Opus stop at 2.8/2.9 v

A bit steep when only ordering three.. Cash Facepalm Big Smile Big Smile

I ended up getting 100 from batteryhookup. Anyone deal woth these sellers before and what their experiences were? Also is there a bug difference between the 4800 and 5000 or are they essentially the same?

I’ve ordered from batteryhookup a few times. I haven’t had any problems at all

I’ve dealt with Battery Hookup on several occasions —Some good Some bad —- They always make good on my purchases —- I test everything I buy from sellers when it comes to mah and lumens ——lots of inflated numbers flying around —— Of the 150 Tesla cells I purchased from Big Battery ( Tech Direct Club / same guy) most cells tested 4750-4850 with a few hitting in the 4900s —- I also had a few in the 4600s

That’s $4 per cell landed on my doorstep.

Your capacity test numbers also match the LDTSL 21700 or Model 3 21700 batteries I got, anywhere from around 4600+ to 4900+ mAh, but most are in the 4700-4800+ mAh.
The aforementioned (LDTSL or Model 3 21700) 21700 batteries sourced from a local seller in our country, whether the battery is labeled “4800mAh” or “5000mAh” or doesn’t have a capacity mAh label..

They do have quick shipping, but mine were shipped a bit Unsafe

The 3 cells were open in the box with some bubble wrap. The cells weren’t separated. Just seems like an accident waiting to happen .

Yeah, that is what I kinda thought also at first. But it seemed to have worked out OK & since they are flat tops, little chance of bad things happening I think.
I may order a few more. ✅ Wink

I bought 3 that were shipped in a plastic package but the bubble wrap they were in wasn’t taped so the batteries spilled into the plastic package. So there was just 5 mil or so of plastic protecting the batteries from all the bumps, jarring, etc that the batteries went through during shipping. They could have taped the bubble wrap but I guess 10 seconds of extra work was too much for them to do.

My 2 year old grand-daughter could have done a better job wrapping the batteries up for shipping.

Yeah, mine were in a rectangular box sandwiched between two layers of big bubble wrap. Thankfully, it was a tight fit when the box was closed, so they were just sitting there in the box safe & sound. ✅
If the fit had been loose, that would have sucked. Sad
