Auction in Texas

A friend passed away a little over a year ago. The last of his “stuff” is being auctioned on Saturday 4-16.
There is all sorts of stuff to look at and watch go for usually way too much money. Lots of knives, a Barrett 50, a cannon, guns, hunting stuff, coins, jewelry - the auction house will ship stuff unless noted. And they will ship to an FFL if you are so inclined.
Mostly I list this just for fun and entertainment value. It’s funny how some stuff will go for outrageous prices and some for peanuts.

If this is not appropriate, let me know and I’ll delete it.

Jeff,

Funny the timing, I just attended a friend’s estate auction today (gone at 35, accident almost a year ago) and all I could think of is this is what it looks like after you pass away, people mourn you shortly after your passing and then pick the bones a year later.
But that is the way it should be, if you buy a friend’s chainsaw for instance, you will at least remember him each time you use it, so he lives on in a way.

What really troubles me is the Wife and 7 small kids he left behind. She is now single and alone with half her life to go yet.
Anyway it also reminds me I need to trim down the bullsheet that I own so my wife doesn’t have to be stuck with it.

Peace out.
Bottoms up for Benuel tonight.

Muto,
Yeah, It’s a strange thing watching a friends stuff going up for bid. Particularly stuff we had history together.
I have some of his old camera gear that I often use instead of my old trusty Nikons simply because. And I’ve got a old 22 that was his and his fathers. Who was also a great guy.
Made before I was born (and I’m an old fart). Brings a smile every time I take it to the shooting range.
All the Best,
Jeff

thanks for the auction link.
entertainment, indeed.

I spent most of my money on wine, women and song. The rest I just wasted.

I have all kinds of things I’ve accumulated over the years —Guns— Tools Equipment —- Vacuum Tubes ( boxes from the 40s / 50s /60s) Tube Audio Gear — and lets not forget my 200+ Flashlights and boxes of parts —— Gonna be a hell of a yard sale —— I’d rather my daughter give it away cheap than try to sell stuff

I’ve been selling off some of my reloading stuff to spare my kids the effort of getting rid of them in the future. In the past few months I’ve sold over 15k cast bullets, 20k primers, and countless brass so I now have more money to spend on flashlights

So in reality they’ll have more stuff for the yard sale ——-

Great Googly Moogly!
I just saw .22LR go for $0.21 each.
And 50BMG go for - wait for it - $60 a round!
A sign of the times…
All the Best,
Jeff

BiMart stopped advertising ammo here, and I cringe to think of the price. In 2020, I bought a 50 box of Blazer brass 45 ACP for like $16? Now it’s over $50. A box of cheap 9mm is like $60 online. The firearms and ammo makers are having a field day.

Happens every time. Hoarding, fear buying. Everyone needs to chill and let supply catch up to demand.

Waaaaaaaay back, a “prepper” friend told me to stock up on things I might not even have a use for, but might be able trade someday for value. Ammo was one. So a 500rd box of .22s that went for 10bux a pop back then(!), if the SHTF, could be worth, like, food and stuff.

9mm, .223, .300, 12ga, etc., might be a bit too specialised, but anyone can go plinking with .22s.

Oh, I love Murphy (from Joisey) and his Grand Plan To End Gun Violence™, how that includes banning .50BMGs entirely. Umm, I doubt any gangstahs would even know a .50 if they got beat over the head with one, let alone be willing to spend 60bux a round. Unless they learn to shoot one holding it sideways or something…

So how many people were killed by .50s in the USA in the past, like, forever?

But yeah, buy when it’s quiet, not when the hoarders are out scooping up all they can at whatever price. I learned my lesson with toilet-paper.

Yeah, Even primers are going for stupid prices. If you can find any.
All the Best,
Jeff

Its a good time to have that stuff for sale, its going for a premium right now

Yeah it is a good time but it’s sad that things have come to this. And my feeling is that it’s only going to get worse. I’m only selling because my kids aren’t shooters. For decades I was shooting 10k rounds per year and so was buying primers & bullets for 2 year’s worth of shooting at a time. Then when the last primer shortage hit I doubled up on the primers so that I could keep firing away if worse came to worse.

I haven’t bought factory ammo since the mid-80’s and I remember buying 500 round bricks of .22LR for $5 and 9mm and 45acp for less than $10 for 50 rounds of ball ammo.

Plus back then one could buy surplus firearms from the CMP at low prices. If only I had been smart enough to do so :frowning:

I heard that —- I have Makarov Pistols I bought for $100-$125 —- That’s for the East German —- I have some boxes of 9mm from Wal Mart from the early 90s — $3.95 / 50 —That’s for Winchester — and all the Financial guys said buy stocks

well, in the early 90’s Apple stock was $0.50 a share.
if $4 worth were bought, and counting all the splits,
that makes $28,000 per share x 8 = $224,000.00
of course, capital gains taxes would take 20%.

Here in NY PD will call grieving family ASAP to tell them they have to get rid of the guns, then tell them they’re worthless and score $1000 worth of guns for 1-200$ and flip em.
Someone dies they win the lottery
Buncha nice fellas
