Lumintop FWAA lights have a Complex Personality.

category: True Fiction

Ode to Lumintop FWAA

How should I love thee, let me count your ways:

1. You like to get your Tail Twisted hard before getting your Head Screwed down, not too tight.

2. You have a Sensitive Tail, and get Turned On easily.

3. When I press your Tail Switch, you need a moment of delay, before you respond.

4. You dislike batteries that are Too Long.

5. Some FWAA suffer from a Premature Contact due to a Shorted Joint, that keeps them Turned On. This can be cured by the application of a Hot Iron Probe.

6. I really like your Tiny Triple, and I appreciate that you are moddable.

7. You run Anduril, which is awesome.

8. You are capable of Multiple Operations, when I Tap Your Tail the right way.

9. You have nice Clips.

10. You are loyal, and fun to be with. You are my Best Friend.

11. You make grown men want to fight over you, because you are Special.

thinking of settling down?

The FWAA was my first real Anduril crush, I just dont know if I can handle the complex personality.

Plus I really want to Eneloop w the FWAA.

Im not sure Im cut out for a relationship with such a Fiery Personality.

But I could be easily seduced by a Ti Body.

Those lights had a difficult childhood as their father was gone before the birth of the oldest. The others are mutated clones.

Victims oft neglect.

I am sorry to say but there are some real issues here. Some that can be resolved with a flashlight, some not.

LOL! Touché

It has taken me years of flagellation to achieve this level of sophistry and erudition.

hahahaha! enjoy the light Jon, don’t take any crap from it

You don’t understand how happy I am that I’m not the only one with the staying on issue. Its so annoying and I’m hesitant to show it off because what if it starts messing up and spazzing out lolol

I have to admit that this does bother me a little. I wonder if other flashlights with Anduril2 suffered from similar behavior?

I wonder if the retaining ring in the tail needs tightening on your lights…?? I don’t have that delay at turn on.

Jon your op sounds like a love letter of unrequited love

Disregarding some of the more disturbing lines….

Mine is instant on and delay ramp or off.

The best TIL for me is people complaining about 3H from On not going to Turbo. I didn’t know that was available and I’ve had E12R for a while now.

the suspected cause is a short circuit from negative to side of mcpcb

I think the cure is to redo the connection to ensure no wire nor solder touches the side of the board…

red bad, green good (I added arrows for emphasis)

good question, my guess is yes, but that is only a guess

probably, but, I dont actually own an FWAA to tighten, yet

I took disturbing inspiration from posts in other rants and reviews

and yes, unrequested love… lol
Im just smitten by those triples

good details, thanks

Does this refer to the button timing that is default since 2019 (!) even in Anduril 1? It’s the same in Anduril 2, nothing has changed. Need more details about your issue, jon_slider.

see post 9, 11 and this video by freeme:

All I see is the button timing that is standard since 2019-06-02, so long before anduril 2. AFAIK no manufacturer has ever requested to change it for their flashlight, so most Anduril flashlights since end of 2019 come with the same behavior.

Btw: Putting the batteries in from the end causes all kind of problems with FWxx lights and is not recommended.

Thank you for the images of the issue. Unfortunately I cant solder so I guess I’m just going to have to deal with it.

Having one of these on the way, it has yet to arrive, and I already have some buyers remorse. All the fancy features and compact size are attractive, but it might be a fail for the one thing I consider the most important feature of any flashlight. It must be functional and reliable. Guns, knives, and flashlights might be needed in an emergency at a moments notice, so if I can’t 100% depend on it, it can never be my primary EDC. I am seeing way too many issues posted with these lights. That begs the question…can I trust this light to come on when I push the switch without fail? I have many firearms, but only a couple I trust to never fail or jam. Before ending a threat, I must first be able to clearly see that threat. I do of course hope and pray that neither action is ever needed, but in these times I feel compelled to be prepared to take any necessary actions to survive. In a perfect World, no such threats would exist, but this is not a perfect World. I try to have a perfect firearm and flashlight to deal with that fact.

IMO, Anduril is up to the task. Switch it on and have a preconfigured brightness, double click for max ramp.

But a Lumintop as a serious tool? Even one with a known problematic design? Don’t think so.

I agree with Unheard, none of the FWxx lights are suited to your requirements.

Lumintop has acknowledged the issue of a short circuit that prevents the light from turning off. IF your light has that issue, I suggest you ask for a replacement light. Be prepared to provide a video.

If otoh, your light works correctly, some of the time, but not always, then copy PinkPanda:

Ive heard Tactical lights should only have one momentary mode.

It is possible to set up your FWAA as a single mode momentary. It also has a shortcut to maximum from off… if you dont use momentary. The Tactical feature set is there, but Im not sure I trust the hardware itself…
