Tekna Lite 2

Just found this, the tube is empty, but does it make sense to do anything with such a light? It looks like 2x AA & is plastic. It seems watertight.

Found what where?

Found flashlight bodies in the old lights bin. I’m not sure if plastic bodies can be used for LED mods. Should I resurrect them? I found some tekna lite 4 bodies as well. The good news is that plastic is easier to drill, but idk.

A friend of mine is a retired commercial diver, he collects the early Underwater Kinetics and Tekna lights and knives. Top shelf stuff for it’s time.

Tekna

I have the Tekna Micro Lite. I replaced the incandescent 222 bulb (E10) with an E 10 led. Works great! Retains all the waterproof qualities plus I get better longevity from the N cell sized alkaline batteries. Cool lights for what they are.

Back in undergrad in the 90s, I collected a bunch of Underwater kinetics dive lights.

They were great. Blew the socks off incan maglites, which were the most commonly available “good” flashlights.

At the time, white LED flashlights were only just coming out. The first one I saw was made of translucent blue plastic. It was powered by 3xAA and had two 5mm white LEDs as the light source. At first glance it looked impressive, because nobody had seen a “cool white” flashlight, other than occasional battery powered fluorescent flood lights.

However, once you actually tried to light something up, those two 5mm LEDs really showed their lack of power. In contrast, the UKE incan dive lights had pretty tremendous output and throw.
