Good question. I know there are a few lighter guys here. I dont carry one but I think I should. Too much stuff going into the pockets. Looking forward to some links.
They're not - that's the Zippo site. If you don't want custom, Amazon or ebay route is better. The link was also to the butane ones, more expensive. The classic windproof Zippos are not nearly as expensive but there's the lighter fluid smell....
This one's $25.95:
A classic silver combo with flints and lighter fluid is $18.50, but if you're gonna do it, you got to add a little bling!
I did use to collect some of these long, long ago. Still like them - they're iconic in a Maglite sorta' way.
id say cricket is the best disposable pocket carry , very comfortable . oil based zippos are good cheaperthandirt has a nice Austrian military lighter $5 stamped stainless solid. but i dont smoke anymore so i have a bic in my bag, in case - they consider taking my stapler at work
I remembered that I had an old Zippo that I got when my wife's Grandpa died. I ran to the store and got some flints, had zippo fluid, dont know why. Filled it up and good to go. I think this one is smaller than the standard size. It's a great little lighter. Thanks guys!
VERY cool and classically beautiful...I justed checked Google as Ive never heard of Armor Zippo before, that series is 50% thicker? How do you like them?
Are the lighters in your pic chrome and polished brass?
Ronson Jetlite. around $8.50 on eBay. i like it more than my old Zippo. it doesn't look as nice as a Zippo though. they work great, but the finish on all the ones i've had kind of looked cheap and uneven.
A gas one definitely. You don't want a gasoline based one. I never understood smokers, having the classic zippos. When lighting any cig you would get a mouthful of smelly burnt gasoline in the process.
"Whats a good lighter for this? BICs are great but Im worried that when in my jeans the gas button will get pushed down because its not protected..."
I carried those for 18year of my smoking career without any issues. When bored i used to fill my pockets with gas for a few sec then lit it. Nice pocket warmer.
+1 on a bic unless you want some class. I have a small collection of butane lighters, and I’d suggest to stay away from the torch style flames and get a regular flame. I don’t know if its just me, but I can never properly refill a torch flame lighter. Pi$$e@ me off to no end, tried a few differant brands of gas, and multiple bottles of each. Tried every filling methood mentioned too.
Here's my favorite from KD, despite the horrible photo. (Man, KD's new website has many messed up photos.) This one is also a jet torch lighter. A lot of my favorite lighters from DX/KD are sadly sold out.
Final answer right there. A small peanut lighter. Without reference it's hard to see how tiny they really are, but mines been living happily on my key chain for about 6months now.
Pros:
- Disturbingly small
- runs off of any Zippo style lighter fluid
- Seals up really well and won't leak in your pants, like a few full zippo's have done to me
- Due to good seal and screw down cap, fluid won't evaporate. Haven't had to refill mine yet, and still works.
- Cheap! $2.50
Cons:
- Not as fancy as Zippo's. Hard to impress folks at the bar with "peanut lighter" tricks
- Not windproof
- slightly more tedious to get into action due to having to twist the cover off.
- Only 5 lumens
I'm not a smoker, but I bought half a dozen of them to keep in the vehicles and other places. Always good to have a source of fire. If you get one, light it about 10 or so times to seat the wheel on the flint. Mine have been problem free and reliable.
The build quality isn't as nice as the other lighters that I have recommended, but it's been tough for me to find a very nice quality soft flame lighter.
