I picked up a Q8 and am impressed. However, it’s not perfect. I want to try modding the firmware. My Q8 runs version 1.3 of NarsilM as near as I can tell. I’ve found 1.3 firmware for the GT, but so far nothing for the Q8.
Can anyone point me to the correct source code for 1.3 for the Q8 (or is what I have compatible)?
I’m thinking of two mods: The press and hold that comes up in moon and ramps up does not give me enough time to stop at moon mode. Typically, when I ask the unit to come up at the lowest setting, I want to be at that lowest setting for a reason. I would like to add a one second delay before it ramps up.
I like the strobe features, but they are clunky to get to. I would like a one sequence set of button presses to enter police strobe mode. This go to high and cycle through is not what I want to deal with if I need to strobe in a hurry.
I’m not into software myself but someone will likely chime in on where the Q8 source code can be found.
And if not, the Q8 code was written by TomE who is a member here on BLF. If you write him a PM, I’m sure he can point you to where the source code can be found.
Cool! I got to BLF because a friend demonstrated a Sofirn SP36 Pro, which I believe runs Anduril. I bought one of those, and the Q8. The intent was one for my son, one for me. I wound up with the Q8, which I like slightly more than the SP36.
What is the history here with two, I guess compatible with the hardware, versions of firmware?
Narsil was created by TomE, originally for the Q8 which was a cooperation between BLF and the flashlight brand Thorfire, but is now on many other flashlights.
Anduril was written by ToyKeeper (also a BLF member), originally for the Lumintop FW3A, but is now on many other flashlights.
Anduril I believe originally has used parts of the Narsil code but is different in many aspects, and a lot has been rewritten over time.

Is there a quick lesson somewhere on these forums on how to flash a Q8, or any other compatible flashlight? I’m thinking such is out there, but I am a bit overwhelmed by the volume of stuff associated with these flashlights. You people are crazy; I like you!
