Sofirn SC31 pro compare to SP35

For those that actually have them, are these lights essentially the same in terms of light output/performance?

They both have sst40
Both have USBC charge
Both can have a magnetic cap

Seems the only major difference is:

- 18650 & 21700 batteries….with the latter having more run time.

  • UI

Not sure if one is better at temp control than the other??

Am I reading it right?

Both excellent, SP35 is more modern probably better choice between the two.

SP35 nice light but does not have magnetic tail cap - least not out of the box anyhow.

Bigger, heavier, beefier than SC31 pro. Nice clip. I like both.

does either have any parasitic drain issues?

Although the same emitters (SST-40 6500k or 5000k), they’re different lights to a significant degree. They both put out a ton of light, the edge going to the SP35 if for nothing else it’s larger diameter and deeper reflector. 21700 cells provide more capacity/run time. ATR (Advanced Temperature Regulation) is non-adjustable and built into the driver/firmware. Good info here:
SP35

SC31 Pro runs Anduril firmware, temperature regulation is user programmable.
SC31 Pro

Sofirn now makes a magnetic tailcap as an accessory for both lights.

I prefer my SC31 Pro’s, both in 5000k. One set up with the magnetic tail cap and 18350 short tube for knocking around in the summer, just dropped in shorts pocket. My SP35 is the 6500k ATR version. Wall of light, and a little better reach than the SC31, but I just can’t warm up to it. The beam has annoying artifacts, I don’t like the switch or the UI, and the scalloped tail cap is sharp and uncomfortable in hand. Might order a mag cap to swap out and see if I like it better.
Just my thoughts, whether or not it answers your questions.

Thanks TIFisher. some good feedback based on your experience.

I might add, I’II likely be using one of these to simply sit in the car glove box, which I know either one is going to be way better than the standard retail store AA battery light.
Also leaning towards the ’35 simply because it appears simpler to operate for the family without going into other modes…they can tend to be click happy!!

If its any good, the final choice is likely to be a replacement as general house torch…replacing the 3 or 4 double “C” alkaline LED’s…eliminating the need to keep a store of C batteries in the cupboard ….and friendly enough for the family to charge them when required.

Nice thing is they’re inexpensive enough to spring for both. The Anduril firmware on the pro gives you a “muggle” option, although it does limit output in that mode…just something to consider if you’re sharing it with the family unit. I’d give the SP35 the nod for glovebox duty as well (if choosing between the two). Personally, I keep Surefire G2X’s with CR123 primaries in my vehicle/bags due to the primary’s ability to better handle temperature extremes. YMMV. Best of luck!

The 35 has a regulated driver. More mass. Less pocket friendly. Should sustain higher lumens longer.

"Seems the only major difference is:

I don't think 21650 cells exist.

They're called 21700 cells.

They’re called 21700 cells.

…thanks, corrected the typo. Late at night when I created the thread!

You use the Surefire G2X for safety purposes? Are 2 CR123s safer than a protected 18650?

As for the sc31 vs the sp35, they are cheap enough to have both.

Yeah this is also a major difference I was going to add. The SP35 is supposed to run more efficient in terms of “driving power” (I think?).

However I think/hope that they’ll eventually release a “SP35 Pro” with Anduril. With the better driver and bigger battery that’s going to be a great Anduril light I think!

Thanks all, just purchased the SP35 with holster and magnetic tailcap
