Robo Call Blockers

What is the best free robo call blocker app? I have been using Hiya and it does identify callers on a list but the damn callers keep changing their numbers. Since spring the calls have gotten worse than ever.

Ooh, this interests me as well.

I don't get much phone spam, but my family does.

We have Android phones.

Do you have Android or Apple?

Android.

nothing works for me, except to block every single caller who does not leave a message

I also have my phone set to only ring IF the caller is in my phonebook

Ive used HiYa when I was on Verizon, Ive used the ATT version of HiYa also… nothing stops the robocallers

I have tried calling back and asking to have my name removed from the list

that does not help either

not only do they spoof fake numbers, they also spoof real people who did not call me

btw, I also disable the feature to let the number ring through if they call back twice… they do, I dont answer

today I got three calls in a row from Florida, where I have no business…
I had to block all three numbers separately… even though they were hitting so close together, it was obviously a robot

I no longer rely on voice telephone if I can avoid it… I use text and email

I sometimes make outgoing calls, but I almost never answer incoming calls… either my ringer is off, or the number is unknown, or I simply did not hear it ring…

I have a HUUUUGE number of blocked incoming calls… I update it daily with 1 to 4 new numbers…

once in a rare while, a friend will text me to say my phone is not answering…
that tells me they are on my blocked list because they called from a different number, and did not leave a message

honestly, voice is 99% spam, to me

the one thing I do really like, is video calling
since corona, it has been my sanity link to “see” family that live far away.

I set global ring tone to something background, such as "twinkle", "silk" or "signal". Then I set all of my contacts on something foreground, such as "piano riff".

Then I ignore the background tone calls when they occur, and I check for messages later, when I am in the mood.

I guess I could do similar with music: set global ring tone to Fleetwood Mac "Hypnotized", or Airplane "Miracles", and all contacts to Led Zeppelin "The Immigrant Song", or Pink Floyd "The Nile Song".

The best call blocker ever.
I did it seven years ago and it worked a treat. Seven years ago I moved from the city to the country/coast 600km away from the city I was born in and lived in for 46yrs.
The day I was leaving I got my phone and smashed it to bits.

I never realized how good being free from the slave box was going to be. I have a home phone with answering machine now life has never been so peaceful.

Anyone in your contacts gets a normal ringtone. Generic calls get ‘silence.wav’.

Forget blockers, as it’s just an endless game of whack-a-mole.

The best call blocker is to only answer calls from people in your contacts.

My wife has her number for a decade and still gets calls from Chinese woman who do not speak English.

So on her phone it’s contacts only on the “Do Not Disturb” and found peace. Now, if she is expecting a call, she takes that off for a time period. Meanwhile, she gets all the hourly security checks from the alarm systems, of which is a custom low output ring tone. (BUILDING ONE, SYSTEM OK…etc)

I get spam calls from Google. They will run for a few days, then they forget about me and start up a few weeks later. I must have at least 100 blocked numbers on it.

Rarely do I get any other spam call because I have my number for 26 years and very stingy on giving it out.

I tried a few spam filters, nothing worked because the majority were local service companies.

Great story, I love it!!! :white_check_mark:

Agreed, that is exactly what I do. :white_check_mark:

I use truecaller, it works for my needs

Solution is simple. Change your phone nr and do not publish it anywhere.
I have 1-2 unwanted calls per year. Same phone nr since 19 years.

Excellent! I do have a phone but purposely leave it at home or don’t charge it when the batteries go dead. If anyone needs to get a hold of me that bad, they can call my wife.

Getting a new number probably won’t help. Chances are you will be getting a recycled number. I have had the same number since 1978. I ported my land line to my cell when I cut the cord. Seems from reading here the only certain way is to only allow calls from your contact list. Trouble is sometimes important calls will be missed. I have had legit calls come up as unknown. The hell of it is the phone companies could stop this if they wanted to. Our legislators need to do some real work and address the issue.

My older HTC phone had that option, wish my current LG one had that. :frowning: Do you have an Android or Iphone?

Spam calls are getting rediculous, I get 10 or so a day. I just keep my phone on vibrate and can just decline the call from my watch. Don’t even have to take my phone out of my pocket.

Make sure your contacts are up to date.

iphone,
the do not disturb is set to only ring if the caller is in my contacts.

I do not decline calls, as that informs the robot that somebody “answered”

since it does not ring (nor vibrate), for calls from non contacts, I dont notice the incoming call at all… I just see a badge that I missed some calls…

I add them to my block list, every day.

I use Hiya myself, because it offers me one feature: blocking calls by part of the number. These spammers mostly use a system where the numbers only vary on the last 4 digits, the rest stays the same. I block the latter and my phone barely rings before Hiya slams the call in their faces :smiling_imp:

Now that’s solid.

Yeh, my smarter phone’s number belonged to a “Robert”, who must’ve been a deadbeat and quite active on sex-sites, ’cause those are the kinds of spam calls and texts that I still get.

I disabled voicemail on that phone, ’cause I was tired of having to wade through 11 VMs of some angry chinese lady screaming at me about some cruise or something.

House phone (not mine), I just let the machine answer, and at best screen calls, because (duh) 90% of them are spam calls.
