After the test of the Imalent R60C I am pleased to review the little monster of light from Imalent , the IMALENT MS06.

IMALENT MS06 impressed me for the very minimal dimensions (119mm) for a flashlight that emits up to 25,000 lumens and which is powered by 3 batteries (included) in 21700 format (4000 mAh). Imalent MS06 is a very bright flashlight that reaches, with its range, a maximum distance of 513 meters, with a wide illumination angle and with the ideal stroboscopic function for search and rescue.

Imalent MS06 has 6 levels of light output beyond the Strobo, with a maximum autonomy of 31 hours and has a fast charge (2A) via its USB cable that we find in the sales package.

In the Imalent MS06 there is no lack of the residual charge level indicator and the memory function as well as the main switch blocking function to avoid accidental switching on.

It has IPX-8 certification (2m submersible) with an impact resistance of 1.5 meters.

The Imalent MS06 also comes with a practical holster and is an ideal companion for night outings with all the power at its disposal.

IMALENT MS06 comes in a beautiful rigid cardboard box with magnetic closure, protected by a shaped foam. In addition to the flashlight, with 3 batteries in 21700 format inside, we find a USB charging cable, a holster, 2* spare O-rings, a lanyard and a user manual (multilingual).

As soon as the box is opened, we find some warnings on what to do before starting to use the MS06:


  1. Before initial use, remove the protective film on the lens and the insulating film inside the battery compartment. Then screw the battery tube back to EXTRA tight, to ensure high current needed for this powerful flashlight.
  2. Please fully charge it before turning it on. Charge the flashlight only with the supplied USB magnetic charging cable.
  3. If the product is left unused or transported, loosen the battery tube one turn to avoid accidentally activating the flashlight.
  4. If the batteries are below 4.1V after 9 hours of charging or the flashlight indicator lights red when the batteries are above 3.8V, check if the flashlight body is loose, tighten it and try again .
  5. We caution not to mix old and new types of batteries, brands or batteries, and so on. It is recommended to use only the original Imalent battery.
  6. Do not use only one or two batteries, to avoid damaging the flashlight.

At the two poles, as contacts with the battery, we find thick and plated springs to the negative and a contact ring plate to the positive. The cells are in parallel within the MS06. This means that the light will work with any combination of cells: one, two or three cells although not recommended.

IMALENT MS06 has good materials, finishes and thicknesses. Very compact once in hand. The writings are clearly legible and placed in the right places. It is constructed of aerospace aluminum alloy with a hard-anodized Type III wear-resistant surface treatment with a hard, military-grade black anodized finish. It is made up of two parts: head and body with tail. MS06 is 119mm long and weighs 572g with batteries. Having the flat tail allows it to be placed vertically as a candle (tailstanding).

IMALENT MS06 grips very well (I have medium-sized hands) thanks to its compact size. On the head we find a smooth aluminum reflector with six parabolas and 6 CREE XHP70 2nd LEDs (6500K). In my specimen the LEDs are well centered and allow the MS06 to reach the remarkable power of 25,000 theoretical lumens covering a maximum distance of 513 meters with 65800cd.

The tempered glass lens is ultra clear mineral and anti-reflective and the bezel is slightly crenulated. IMALENT MS06 is certified IPX-8 standard waterproof (2 meters submersible) and has a resistance of 1.5 meters to shocks or falls.

On the head we also find the only switch that the MS06 is equipped with. The lateral metal button allows complete management of the flashlight, while the status LED, located immediately below the electronic button, indicates the color, the status of the batteries and when we are close to exhaustion by flashing red.

The electronic switch of the MS06 has an audible click and is very sensitive to touch. For this reason, the IMALENT MS06 has an electronic lock (4 quick clicks) to avoid inadvertent ignitions that are very dangerous with the light power available to the flashlight. Since the button is not in relief it is not easy to find in the dark, especially if you are wearing gloves.

Still under the button we find some cooling fins useful to dissipate, in part, the great heat produced by the LEDs at the highest powers.

On the opposite side there is the magnetic charging port, with which we will charge the three batteries that power the flashlight. The magnetic connector with the two plated contacts has a perfect fit, even when the USB cable is moved, thanks to the magnetic force making charging "on the fly" simple and safe. MS06 has an intelligent safety circuit, according to the battery status choose the most appropriate constant current / constant voltage charging mode, to avoid battery overcharging. This door naturally guarantees waterproofness as it is dust-proof and sand-proof. During charging, the status LED lights up red and when charging is complete, it lights up green.

In my tests the full recharge took place in just over 6 hours (using a 5V / 3A power supply). Recharging, according to my equipment, is done at approximately 2A max.

 

On the side there is also an opening for inserting the supplied cord. The head has an irregularly shaped design that partially restrains rolling.

The central body of the IMALENT MS06 has an anti-slip knurling with a fine texture that allows a discreet grip even with wet hands such as in case of rain. Unscrewing the torch body we find the numerous well-lubricated threads and the water and dust seal O-ring.

USER INTERFACE (UI)

IMALENT MS06 has a single switch to manage the 6 levels available beyond the special Strobe level.

The management of the UI is very simple.

 

Exit and runtime:

- Turbo: 25000-4000 lumens; duration: 70s + 120min

- High: 9000-4000 lumens; duration: 2 + 130 min

- Medium II: 4000 lumens; duration: 2h18min

- Medium I: 2500 lumens; duration: 4 hours

- Medium low: 1200 lumens; duration: 8 hours

- Low: 200 lumens; duration: 31 hours




INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

 

Turn on / off

Click to turn the flashlight on or off.

 

Normal lighting mode

When the flashlight is on, press and hold the power switch button to switch between 200lm - 1200lm - 2500lm - 4000lm - 9000lm - releasing the power switch button will save the required output level.

 

Turbo and Strobe

Double pressing the power switch button in any mode will activate the turbo output, which is up to 25,000 lumens, double press the power switch button again to activate the strobe. Lightly press the power switch button to exit

 

Low power warning

With the light on, when the remaining battery voltage is less than 3.0V, the light will flash at 2Hz to remind users to swap or charge the batteries.

 

Intelligent thermal control

While using high output modes, the flashlight will generate a lot of heat. When the body temperature of the flashlight reaches 50 ° C, the brightness will decrease to 4000 Iumens to ensure safety, comfortable use and prevent overheating discomfort. When the body temperature of the flashlight reaches 65 ° C, the flashlight will not activate the turbo.

 

Switch indicator light

With the flashlight off, press and hold the power switch button for 3 seconds to turn the switch light on or off

 

Memory function

The MS06 flashlight will remember the brightness that was previously set. When the flashlight is turned on, it remembers the brightness level previously set before being turned off (turbo and strobe excluded).

 

Lock and unlock function

With the flashlight off, quickly press the power switch button 4 times to lock or unlock the flashlight. The light will flash three times to indicate that the light is locked or unlocked.

 

Note:

Screw the flashlight body as tightly as possible after installing the batteries, the flashlight will work normally. Do not use a battery that is unable to discharge 35A current or the flashlight indicator will be red or the flashlight will not work well.

BEAM and RUNTIME

The beam of the IMALENT MS06 has a good uniformity, considering that it is a multi LED, with a pleasant tint tending to green only at low power levels. The temperature of the LEDs is about 6500K. The beam is of an alluvial nature with a good distance reached by the beam to illuminate well at medium and short distances.
IMALENT MS06 can be used, in particular, at the medium level where it allows excellent visibility by limiting the considerable heat produced at the highest powers. The highest level (Turbo 25000lm) I managed to activate it numerous times, of course the duration is decreasing as it goes down with the voltage of the batteries.
In the various tests I made in the various powers available, I found values in candles (cd) lower than those stated by Imalent in the order of 15%. Despite this, the brightness achieved is remarkable and well regulated.

To the eye I don't see any significant PWM in the available modes. The start of the spill from the walk is adjacent to the feet.

The Runtimes were done in a closed environment with an ambient temperature of about 27 °C using the 3* 4000 mAh IMALENT 21700 batteries, found in the sales package, fully charged.

I would like to clarify that the values expressed by the graphs must be taken, above all, as a reference because they are made with means and environmental conditions different from those used in the laboratory.

 

The first test was putting the IMALENT MS06 in TURBO mode without additional ventilation. The large amount of light falls quite quickly in the first minute after switching on and then settles down to MIDDLE II level after two minutes. Subsequently there is a slight decrease until it reaches almost 2 hours where the flashlight turns off. Below 3V, the status LED starts flashing red to signal the exhaustion of the batteries. At the end of the test the batteries showed a value around 2.7V.

CONCLUSIONS:

Going to the conclusions I think that the Imalent MS06 is a very good achievement. MS06 combines great light power in a compact flashlight made with good materials and finishes. It also completes the electronic part with the switch lock function, memory function and intelligent temperature control. Also noteworthy is the "on the fly" recharge via the magnetic connector. What should not be underestimated, in this period, are the replaceable and non-proprietary 21700 format batteries.
The torch at the highest powers heats a lot, but this was to be expected given the minimum dimensions with the length of only 119mm. Excellent alluvial beam that allows a good vision even with low levels starting to illuminate adjacent to the feet.
IMALENT MS06 arrives in a beautiful, complete package, where we also find the excellent holster essential to carry it on the belt without problems.

Great review. I know turbo setiing should be used sparingly but… Imalent are so quick to boast this light a 25000 lumen light but you only get that for 1 minute. Sustainable light is more like 4000 lumen. I imagine the MS06 would get HOT!

 Thanks for your review. I got my MS06 six months ago. How many lumens is it really? My guess is that is the most amount of lumens in one minute that six XHP70.2 can wring from three 21700 cells. Just give me the most amount of turbo lumens for a few seconds in the smallest package and I am happy.

Added plus: it also has normal modes for normal runtime when I am in a normal mood or when I am using the light for normal, boring tasks.

I got confused, if you press from off you turn on the status LED. You have to press for 3 seconds.
