Finally had time to play with Deerelight Javelin & EDC C2H

So, I have had these 2 lights for years, did not really use them for various reasons, one being the C2H has a nasty de-domed something in it.

If you are not familiar with the Javelin 2xAA light, here is a litte more info for ya.

  1. it is a P60 light, the outside spring needs to be removed from the dropin
  2. fit and finish are amazing, pocket clip unscrews and a metal ring can replace it.
  3. very slim light
  4. 3 very well spaced modes on CW emitter
  5. I have the box, spare parts including ring and instructions, but do not have the 1xAA optional extension tube

This photo includes the Javelin stripped down with the head in use on the C2H set up for 1 16340.

On to the EDC C2H, very interesting little light.

  1. built like a tank with removable pill and reflector, 16mm mcpcb
  2. two part battery tube, will house AA/14500, 16500 or 16340 when disassembled
  3. very good mechanical switches on both
  4. 3 well spaced modes

Now for the interesting part… the C2H can be configured with the Javelin head and also operated on 1xAA/14500, 16500 or 16340 and lithium primaries. The Javelin can also be used with the smaller, pocket friendly C2H head as well running 2xAA cells.

I am considering replacing the C2H emitter with a Nichia 219b sw-45k or sw-40. That would make this a very handy little light with the 16340 or a very handy slightly larger light with a 14500. I am thinking about modernizing the emitter in the CW P60 dropin to a 5000k SST-20 or XP-L Hi 5A2 for a great tint.

I was considering selling the set, until I figured out how much they lego with each other. I don’t know, may still but I would like to see both up to their potential!

Had a DBS something and a Nightseaker (searcher) something in the past. Very well built lights. They don’t seam to update there LEDs.

I think they were either out of business or well on the way before LEDs really got to a point they were anything like folks expect now. None of the printed materials is dated, but the LED selection was XP-E2, XP=G2 and XR-E. Mine appears to be a de-domed XP-E2. I will be converting that to a Nichia sw-40 on Noctigon this weekend. BTW, there appears to be no PWM in use on the C2H head.

I have a Javelin, picked it up when I was on a 2AA P60 kick. Definitely a well made, lightweight host. God o-ring sealing and great switch. On mine there is anodizing inside the head where the pill would contact battery negative (the shelf). Does yours have this? How did you address it? I was able to sand enough off to get my P60 incan to yuji 5mm conversion working but it doesn’t do so well with a malkoff like the M31 series.

Mine has enough anno missing at the base that the brass pill of the dropin makes good contact. I have noticed that the best dropin to use is one with a noctigon MCPCB installed so that it does now screw together quite as much. This really seems to aide in making the connection. Before I installed the LED on a noctigon, I would use a tiny bit of foil take laid in making contact with the end of the brass pill and the side of the reflector to aide in a better connection.

The host is very nice! It is about the smallest 2xAA I think can be made. The switch is good and the finish is fantastic.
