I didn’t see a topic like this so I thought I would start one.
I am relatively new to 3d printing, didn’t get started until less than a year ago, but I use mine all the time. I never realized just how useful it would be. Pretty much anything I need made out of plastic or TPU I can either download a design or make my own and print it out. If the first model isn’t quite right I just change the design a little and print again. It’s like having a hardware store at my house.
So here’s what I made today, it’s an aerator for my pool that screws into the return jet and mixes air with the water.
Chlorine tablets lower the PH of the pool, aerating raises the PH back up. This is about the fifth model of it I have printed, the earlier ones were straight out from the wall of the pool but my return jet is too high so it would drag the solar cover over across the water and bunch it up on the other side. This one I made with a 45 degree angle down so it doesn’t mess up the cover.
I’m about to get a 3D printer but always wondered how strong are these 3d printed parts are compared to ABS plastic? My first parts would be vaccum hose adapters for my table table saw and planer
Some printers will print ABS, though it’s not the easiest material to work with and you need good ventilation. I find PETG to be almost as good mechanically but generally a lot easier to work with.
Thanks! It’s my design, I’m really not that good at it but I’m getting better, this is really only the second design I’ve done that’s more advanced. I use Freecad and have learned all I know from YouTube videos.
Pipe threads are a project to try to model, straight threads are pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
I printed up a triple flashlight mount for a camera tripod so I can shine 3 flashlights in the same direction. I used 3 flashlights that have been converted to red, green and blue and shine them on a wall to get a whiteish color. You could call it a really low CRI white. But the magic happens when you make shadows with it. The kids are really enjoying it and it’s a good educational tool on how light colors work.
Thanks! I should draw up a triple mount that fits convoy s2+ because you can order them already set up in RGB. Maybe if I get time I’ll put one on thingiverse.
