LED strip lighting with stepless ramping option?

I’ve looked around quite a bit and haven’t as yet stumbled upon an LED light strip with stepless ramping. All of the ones I’ve seen have like 2 or more brightness levels. Maybe I’m not using the right criteria or perhaps I’d have to build something myself. Any ideas? Thanks!

Look at the neopixel or dotstar strips on adafruit.com. They aren’t stepless but they are 8 bit pwm and have a nice range. Get a Trinket M0 board if you want to play with one from a PC. It has a dotstar on the board and comes with a demo showing the colors pulsating.

Edit: oh wait do you mean single color for illumination? These are RGB but there are also single color ones. The CRI might not be that great though.

They have plenty of remote controls for that on Aliexpress. But if you want a more diy solution I use a couple of PWM switches with potentiometers. Can’t be more stepless than an good old school potentiometer.

Thanks for the information I am thinking of doing the same, but I hope it can help me to make a led staircase, do you think it looks ugly?

Pretty sure wled gives you a slider bar on your phone. Did you look at a dig-uno controller? Designed by Quinled and either open source diy or buy preassembled on Dr.zzzs shop.

Yeah, trying to avoid making my own board. Would prefer to buy off the shelf. Single color, neutral white to warm white. The intended application is for an art project illuminating translucent beach stones. Idea is to have a mini TIR below each stone, with a corresponding LED situated to illuminate.

Don’t wanna be The Party Pooper, but I tried that Once Upon A Time, and you need some seriously bright light to get any decent glow through the stone.

Maybe trim these down to fit:MiTiQiTler Ra 90+ SMD 2835 DC 24V 4000K 120leds/m High CRI Lumen Fita Led Light Strips Flexible https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32311490555.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148357.17.2f464337HLzKgq&aff_fcid=b3be3e25d2cf4e78bcbcc077c6ebb3d6-1629787138619-09816-bKlozWHK&aff_fsk=bKlozWHK&aff_platform=link-c-tool&sk=bKlozWHK&aff_trace_key=b3be3e25d2cf4e78bcbcc077c6ebb3d6-1629787138619-09816-bKlozWHK&terminal_id=a9907a63b52941d79b04e7c58ca1e282

Controlled by one of these: https://drzzs.com/shop/digquad/

You will have extra led strip, I dont know if they sell the same high CRI in smaller lengths, but with some connectors and extra wire you could easily light up more shelves. The power supply above may only be good for 1 meter or 3ft of strip, not sure on that either.

And watch this for some issues and how to address them:

I think these are a form of quartz, with of course different opacity properties. I’ve illuminated some of them a bit, soft glow, with just 10 lumens. Some hit with like 1000 lumens end up like a blinding bright glow “orb.” I’m planning to do a test photo of some with several lights. I’ll post when I have it to show you what I mean.

Yeh, they have variable density. But even in the pix above, they cast a pretty dark shadow.

I used to polish ’em in a rock-tumbler, too. “Rough” or polished didn’t make much difference.

Philips hue led strip?

Here’s an example. With these lights, most are in the lowest or 2nd lowest brightness setting. While the camera does contrast balance a bit, this is pretty representative of light transmission through these stones.
