Sofirn HS05 Review - AA/14500 - Full Runtime and Battery Graphs

1 Thank

Really nice review. Great beamshot work . Thankyou :+1:

Thanks Funtastic for the interesting and informative review of the HS05.

I have copied the code for a 20% and planned to grab two of this small Sofirn head-lamps when the End of the Season Sale on Ali Express starts on 23 August.

Hope to see an option for just the flashlight and battery. I don’t need the headband or the small charger.

Glad you enjoyed it.

The headband will always be bundled since it’s sold as a headlamp. You could always ask them, but guess everything would already be packaged at their factory.

Great information Funtastic!
You’ve helped me decide to get one of these.
Thank you.

I got one of the 6000k ones. I know more about my flashlight after watching your review.

The "Electronic Lockout" does not function correctly on either of my two Sofirn HS05 Headlamps when using either an Alkaline or NiMH battery (but it does function correctly when using a Li-ion battery).

For reference, both of my HS05 Headlamps were purchased from AmazonUS in November of 2021 and use the 5000K CCT 90 CRI Samsung LH351D LED.

When electronically locked out (4 fast clicks while OFF), if I "press and hold" the switch, the light enters a momentary moonlight mode until the switch is released (as it should), but after doing this for the first time, if I "single click" or "press and hold" the switch again for a second time, the "Electronic Lockout" is prematurely deactivated and the headlamp stays ON (which should not happen until I manually deactivate the electronic lockout with 4 fast clicks).

This is only a minor issue which does not detract from the headlamp's usefulness, since I normally loosen the tail cap for a "Mechanical Lockout".

But, I am curious if any other Sofirn HS05 Headlamps have this issue.

NOTE: The electronic lockout functions correctly on my two Sofirn SP10 V3 flashlights with any type of battery (Alkaline, NiMH or Li-ion) and the SP10 V3 even remains electronically locked out after a battery change; whereas the electronic lockout on the Sofirn HS05 Headlamp is deactivated after a battery change.

Has anyone experience the red battery light flashes in strobe mode on a fully charged battery?

I don’t know if this is normal or defective.

I haven’t, but have you tried another battery to narrow down whether it’s the HS05 or the battery? Does it work normally on the other levels?

I’d first make sure everything is tight, head and tail. Also clean the connections

It’s a few weeks old. New HS05 kit.

It only does it on strobe. The rest of the modes works fine.

I have no other 14500 battery yet. I’ll try the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA.

I tried it with the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA.

Still does it.

Update

I bought new AA batteries, The low battery light doesn’t come on.

I bought 2 new Vapcell 14500 and it still does it on a fully charge battery. Only on strobe mode.

Sofirn reply was it’s the battery. I think the light is defective.

I’d need to check my unit, but currently away on holiday. Maybe post a question on the Sofirn Facebook group to get others to check

If it works perfectly besides the red led flashing on strobe, why is it bothering you? How often do you use strobe and does it affect its operation?

It’s the low cell warning. The low cell warning light may go on in other modes eventually. I paid for a non defective light and receive a defective light.

Have you run the battery flat while in use to confirm the low voltage indicator doesn’t function?

Have you confirmed with others that their HS05 doesn’t flash red on strobe? I never checked mine, I just mentioned I hadn’t noticed when I reviewed it. I use a model I review for 3-4 days and then store it in its box. I haven’t used it since my review.

Currently away on holiday so I can’t test mine

I check the 14500 voltage before and after each use to see if the cell was indeed the cause. It wasn’t. My friend tried a 14500 with 2.8 volts, and it acts the same way.

In your video posted above. I couldn’t see if the red light was on while it was in strobe. I seen YouTube video that shows a green light when in strobe. I tried 3 fully charged 14500 cells with the same results. I used the Vapcell S4 Plus charger and the supplied Sofirn single bay charger.

Update

Sofirn refuses to warranty the light.

This is the last light I buy from them. I don’t need garbage.

Your only issue is that the indicator shows red on strobe, that’s it! Why are you even claiming a warranty? It works perfectly otherwise…

If you’re really into moaning about little things, post on Sofirn’s facebook group and you’ll get a resolution fairly quickly. If you purchased via Sofirn’s website or Amazon this is the group to post on, if it’s AliExpress then you won’t get any help. Sofirn has different teams for the various platforms.

Why do I have to deal with a defective light, when I paid for a working light?

A low warning indicator is somewhat important when running Li Ion.

I ask on Amazon, where I bought it if anyone has this problem or is it normal. My question never made it to the Amazon webpage.

Sofirn block it from the HS05 page. Like most bad reviews, gets deleted.
