S2+ emitter

In an S2+ will the Osram LED produce more throw than the Cree XPL-HI or is there not much in it?

Given the differences of the leds, the Osram will alwyas produce a bit more throw. Still it will not become a “thrower” per se .
I once have a S2 with Osram W1 and SMO reflector, and I compared it with an S2+ with XP-L HI and SMO reflector too.
See the post to see the differences.

I have other posts in that thread showing other beamshots of the S2, if you wanna look. The reflector is deeper than the S2+ , so it can throw a bit further, eventually.

Thanks but argh that tint. I remember why I chose the Cree now XD

Would love something with more throw in 5000k tint but oh well

Yeah it doesn’t exist at the moment unfortunately.

The new Cree’s look promising though

Which Crees are those?

The XP-P

I use to build the older S2 with the deep smooth reflector—I would use a dedomed XP-G2 with a 3amp Qlite driver —- they would measure around 20-22 Klux — I sold quite a few of those — The Osram should throw better but maybe not much —- I tried XP-E2 but the beam wasn’t as nice and the throw was the same —for the best results with the beam I enlarged the from of the head by the lens opening so the reflector was not restricted at all —couldn’t use an O-ring hough

FYI the 1D tint of XPG2, when dedomed, has a nice neutral ~5000K tint. I switched to that from a dedomed XPG2 S4 2B when I got tired of the yellow green tint. The 1D is not commonly found, however. I got a couple from fastech a year or two ago.

:+1:

I have a SST-20 S2+ and while its not a thrower by any means it does throw well. I don’t see why an Osram wouldn’t do well.

Need the CULPM1 over at the Convoy store, quite a nice more neutral tint to it.

I got one with it (only 2700K option in stock at the time) and smooth reflector, but it was a bit too throwy for my uses of a tube light and too little to match my dedicated throwers. Swapped the reflector for a 30º TIR (anything wider ends up with a donut hole) and was very satisfied with the end result.
