What Will Conflict With China Do To Our Hobby?

Given that it’s of small concern compared to the overall effects of such a conflict, how do you think it will change the hobby?

“such a conflict”. What does that mean and who with? Are you watching that 60 minutes Australia segment from a few weeks ago?

Certainly the least important consequence of conflict between our countries, but…… there would be change.
None of US would be at a disadvantage but the average citizen would be wondering how to clean that weird stuff out of their old Radio Shack flashlight.
Flashoholics would finally receive the awe and admiration they deserve. We would be as gods.

So we have that going for us, seems fair.

I’d be careful of Huawei flashlights since they might spy on us?

Being hit with megatons tend to cause people to don’t feel anything, so they won’t worry about flashlights.

I’m very worry about shipping delays. Hope a tint ramping D4SV2 is available soon.

If they put the clamps on lithium exports, that’d hurt an awful lot of things. Talking raw material, not cells, but restriction or pricing/tariffs would be huge. Outside of their own sources they control much of the mining in other places like Africa and South America…likely some here in the US as well although I know we kind of set ours back for later use as we have several other things. Unbalanced as it is, commerce and trade is just as important to them as it is to everyone else. As the “manufacturer for the world” they need to be able to make and sell goods in order to have cash support their own economy, so it would take an awful lot for them to take drastic measures like cutting production or export to whomever, especially the biggest markets.

That’s the Googalight, too!

there is conflict right now.
economic, however.

Personally I don’t think this conflict will change much in my hobby directly.
Atm I perceive that prices are doubled, and mayby that’s “conflict”-induced but IDK.
So I’ve lowered my monthy intake of lights substantially.

Until now, the wealth of China was based on growth (+10%/yr), on volume, on output.
They earn more money by making more stuff. Mainly COVID put a stop on that.
People can’t just make more stuff, but still the cost of living goes up.
So they raise the prices of what still can be manufactured.

Cost of transport has gone up. Containers costs about 6x more than before COVID.
Blame it all on COVID? I would not know, but it certainly does make it harder.

Finally, new tax regulations. Some people say they are cheated out of 5–6 salestax.
Well in the EU we smile about those numbers and have another beer.
VAT differs per country, and is 19% to 25%, that includes the (raised) shipping cost.
But I prefer to pay that if they put it on the bill. If they don’t Customs will do it.
(actually shippers do if for them). And I have to pay an additional handling fee.

Though prices go up, margins go down in China (I think). So CS becomes non-existent.
So people buy less and turn away from more and more sellers.
If any of it is “conflict”-related. IDK, but it surely does not help either.

Looking for cheap labour, big profit western world gave away technology, production lines, know-how to China.
They were to lazy to manufacture, now crying because of shortage.
China is most powerful country in the world and now it’s to late to poke a dragon.
