Auto Lockout Flashlights query?

My wife burnt a hole in her jacket pocket this morning after accidentally turning on her Astrolux EA01s so to prevent this (or worse) happening again I’m going to get her a flashlight that has auto lockout as she never remembers to use the manual lockout function.

So far the only light I’ve seen that ticks the boxes is the Olight Seeker 3 but it’s a bit pricey, although I’m hoping it’ll come up in the black friday deals. Are there other flashlights that have auto lockout, flood beam (we really like the beam profile of the EA01s) and can maintain a minimum of 800 lumens for 30 mins+ ? Oh, it needs to be pocketable as well, so no bigger than the Seeker 3 either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Any light with Anduril2 or upgradeable to Anduril2 has auto lock.

Edit: I checked that Astrolux EA01s comes with Anduril1 so it should be possible to just upgrade the firmware

Thanks for the info. I wouldn’t have a clue how to upgrade to be honest, but I’ll look into it. Also I’ll see if I can find which lights have Anduril 2 :+1:

D4SV2 is now available with Anduril 2.

You even have the option to choose adjustable Color Temperature. With a wide choice of LEDs including High CRI.

My choice would be 219b 2700K on channel 1, and 219b 4500K on channel 2, because High CRI is the only way I fly.

Your choices mentioned seem unaware of High CRI… that may be an area of further learning for you. Or you can choose Low CRI W1 LED for maximum throw… Or as some are choosing… two W1 LEDs and two floodier and warmer LEDs such as LH351d 4000K…

However a sustained 800 lumens for 30 minutes is not real world… you may need to adjust that expectation. Or, at least you need someone else to inform you… I have no experience with the specific lights you mention, because I avoid Cool White and Low CRI options…

Thanks for the info, I obviously need to do some more reading as I didn’t understand half of what you said lol.

As for runtimes, Olight claim for the seeker 3 level 2 is 1200 lumens for 135 mins, dropping to 600 for 35 mins and then 300 lumens for 10 mins, a claim which appears to be backed up by these runtime charts :+1:

good info… I notice that is a 200 gram light… and uses a 21700 battery.

The D4V2 is an 18650 light that weighs half as much, so it makes sense it has less thermal mass, and therefore lower sustainable output.

good luck with your search
I hope you enjoy whatever light you choose… The Olight seems to meet your needs… since you dont care (or have not learned about) High CRI, nor high weight.

The Acebeam E70 AL and RovyVon A3 lockout when you turn them off.

To turn on the E70, you have to double-click.

To turn on the A3, you have to do a long press.

If you contact Acebeam on BLF, you might be able to get a discount if you do an impression or a review of their flashlights.

The RovyVon keychain flashlights are kinda pricey, but go on sale on Amazon every once in a while.

The Wurkos TS21 is close to what you have now and has Anduril 2.

I run a modded Anduril 1 on all of my FWXX lights that has time variable autolock, just because of the reason the OP cites. I prefer Anduril 1 over Anduril 2 as I am accustomed to it. The FW I use is easy to configure on the fly depending on the need. Lock the light and click 5 times to set the number of minutes before autolock or 0 clicks to prevent auto lock.

Thanks, it’s a case of not learning. I’ve not had time to look into it properly but it appears to be the ‘colour’ of the light in terms of how much it replicates natural light. Things like that are important to me as I’m quite honed into it from doing photography and I’m accustomed to seeing changes in white balance etc, however my wife doesn’t care so it’s all about brightness, runtime, beam profile and reducing the risk of burns.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at those.

Thanks. I’m pretty sure I looked at that one but runtimes weren’t great.

I’m not that technically minded tbh. Obviously I can quite happily do standard firmware updates, but if it requires any kind of ‘hacking’ or coding etc then it’s beyond me.

maybe someone here could teach you how to put a version of Anduril with Autolock, on your wife’s existing Astrolux EA01s…?

or, I know a guy in London that has the skills to reflash Anduril 2… onto your Astrolux EA01s… but Ive not mentioned your need to him… hes a busy guy, so dont want to just volunteer his name in public… PM me if you want an introduction…

seems a reflash is the shortest path to auto lock happiness in the case of your Astrolux EA01s, whether you do it yourself, or find someone to do it for you…

good luck with the Quest

There are many forks of Anduril 1 out there, many of those forks also includ hex files for direct use. Many only make one or 2 minor changes to make the light match personal desires. I have used mine for years and have not found any issues with it. I could e-mail the hex to you if you PM me an email address. Autolock was the only change that I felt the light needed from day one. I also run it on my early D4V2 with a change to the battery gauge colors in lockout to reflect a gas gauge in the US, Green/Yellow/Red.

Thanks for the help. I’m nowhere near London so I’ll look at other options for now, however if I have no joy then I could always post it down if he’s willing to do it.

Thanks, I’ve no idea what HEX files are but I’ll send a PM shortly :+1:

anduril can limit high levels, use muggle mode, or lockout

wle

Thanks, however muggle mode is not ideal as my wife has a condition that makes it difficult to see in the dark so she needs the brightness. I’ve told her to use lockout but she forgets hence wanting auto lockout :+1:

probably the best you can do is, a slide switch or recessed, hard to press switch
