Hi there, after asking on reddit (r/lightbulbs subreddit) and got no response I decided to look for some special light forum in hopes that people might know what lightbulb is this
I realy like lightbulbs that need a bit of time to warm up and emmit a different color when they start
I dont know what they are called and I realy like how they transition from purple to warm white when they turn on (camera didnt made a good justice at capturing that), they are like Mercury vapor lamps but arent, because MV lamps require a ballast and I have no space for a ballast here
I also have one lamp like that in my night lamp which broke yesterday (I have no idea what kind of lamp it is, its not CFL because I have some CFLs from Osram: https://youtu.be/6uhmtLmEW0s (first lightbulb in the video) and they startup immediately
And I am looking for a replacment, something that would emmit a different color at startup and would not require any ballast (or would have a built in one)because, I have no space for one
Hopefully its not a problem if I live in 240V country :)
I’m almost positive it indeed is a CFL. CFLs use a wide variety of ballasts, some engage the heaters at startup (as in a conventional fluorescent tube), some use high voltage to strike the discharge- the latter being much faster at reaching nominal light output and predominant in the dwindling selection of CFLs on the market. Fluorescent tubes (be it traditional or rolled up in a CFL) themselves use a variety of gas mixtures and phosphors that all affect the performance. Also, fluorescent tubes start slower in cold temperatures and since yours is outside, it might also be a factor.
My guess is that unless you can get the same make and model bulb and unless they’ve changed it up internally, you won’t be finding a comparable replacement.
I’d suggest looking into dim-to-warm (known under a variety of trade names) LED bulbs and adding a dimmer inline. Alternatively you could get a ‘smart’ colour bulb and program a transition.
