Greetings from Westphalia/ Germany

Hello from Germany,
I’ve only been a flashlight addict for a short time, but I’m already fully into it.
It started in the summer this year. After a camping trip I was looking for a decent headlamp. Current flashlight inventory is 30, mostly smaller EDC lights, but increasingly larger caliber. I keep a spreadsheet with all the data and am in the process of building a lumen tube.

So, hello to the self-help group!

By the way, I still don’t have a suitable headlamp…

Welcome to BLF Equinox!

Have you considered the Boruit D10 headlamp? Here’s the BLF review on it: Boruit Headlamp Review D10 (aka. EHL0628) - King of the Budget Headlamps? I really like mine.

Hello NeutralFan,
thank you for the welcome and the recommendation.
The headlamp I’m looking for should be highCri and flood, possibly a Mule? I need it when camping mainly to take care of my motorbike after a long day, repair if necessary.
I will possibly open an extra advice thread.

Welcome to BLF Equinox

Thank you!

Maybe take a look at the Sofirn D25LR (https://www.sofirnlight.com/products/d25lr-rechargeable-headlamp-lh351d-5000k-white-led-90-cri-and-sst20-dr-660-nm-red-led-flashlight-micro-usb-charging-port)? I’m going to buy one pretty soon! I already have a D25L and I really like the neutral, even and high CRI light the two LH351D emitters produce, and the D25LR has one LH351D and one red LED so nice for using at night! Charging happens over Micro-USB (unfortunately no Type-C) but it’s a nice waterproof screw-mechanism instead of a rubber flap. The headband is also quite alright IMO, not too bulky and it’s easy to take the light in and out and to change the angle. Welcome!

> By the way, I still don’t have a suitable headlamp…

Oh, you don’t have a Wizard?

Welcome!

Thank you Fescron.
my favorite so far is a cyansky hs6r, but it hasn’t really grabbed me yet either.

Danke!
The thing with the “Wizard” I do not understand.

Aaaah! Jetzt… :+1:

Would still be within the limits… Thank you.
I will perhaps yet once a search request in the appropriate sub-forum.

Hey, welcome to BLF!

With a little hesitation I might recommend this Milwaukee headlamp for you IF you can find it at a good sale price. The price I found on Amazon.de is pretty ridiculous. In the US these are usually from $25-$32 USD but I found one at closeout pricing at a hardware store for $13. It has some drawbacks but the light output is decent for close work, certainly about as close as you can get to mule-flood as you can ask for, and the color is very nice. It’s probably around 4000K, maybe 4500K, totally smooth with no artifacts. Can’t tell what emitters it uses. Simple high-medium-low-off interface, single raised button on top. Milwaukee calls this warmer light “True View” and it’s ok, not great but pretty nice. I don’t think it’s truly high CRI but color rendition is very good and personally I very much prefer this color for mechanic work and working with metal that may be bright or shiny.

When I was considering buying this, I read a lot of negative reviews that it can’t maintain high output for more than a few seconds, etc. I think most of those people are clueless because the light does very well for quite some time. What they are seeing is a stepdown from high to medium only when the batteries are drained to where they can’t output the voltage for high. And actually for close up work medium is plenty, and low is certainly useful (it’s nothing like a low moonlight or as low as most flashlights will go). Drawbacks are that it uses 3xAAA cells, so not much power reserve but they’re available everywhere and you can run it on the energizer lithium primaries which are great for camping and cool/cold weather. Odd quirk that I have yet to try and measure to see if it’s any problem….the emitters do not totally turn off when the switch is off, so some parasitic drain there. We’ve seen this in some flashlights and usually it’s not a problem but I’ll get around to measuring cell voltage on this soon. I use it often enough that if the drain is bad it’s not affecting me. The whole light is quite compact and lightweight, very easy to pack away or wear for long periods in comfort, good quality headband. For normal camping and night hiking, I would not use or recommend this but for what you’ve said, it sounds like it might be great. If you want the 18650 right angle type headlamps that people mostly talk about here in the flashlight world, look for one that has a pebbled/beaded optic…or you could add some DC-Fix type film over a smooth lens, too. For headlamps I really prefer the little square units like this one, Black Diamond, Petzl, etc. instead of the right angle types, despite the batteries.

Anyway, just a thought…here’s the only amazon link I could find for it but again, I don’t think I’d buy this at normal retail price: Amazon.de (over here, this model is called the 2106 or the 2103 (which appear to be the exact same product)

Welcome, Equinox! Westphalia is some of the most beautiful countryside in Germany. You’re fortunate to live there!

The world of LED flashlights is seriously rich & deep—you can dabble and get just enough to improve your illumination capabilities, or you can dive deeper… become a tint aficionado, and end up with a huge collection. So many different people from different walks of life are here. BLF is a great place. Enjoy!

thanks @Correllux for the hint. You even picked out the link for Amazon.de…. :+1:

I just got 3 Emisar/Noctigon out of the mail yesterday and am already thinking about ordering another one (or two). So I think I’m definitely acutely addicted and therefore a headlamp search will be a bit more complicated. (What I like however)

@xevious: Thanks for the warm welcome and the nice words about my home. You’re right, it’s beautiful here, which is something I should always keep in mind.

Well, add the Russian brand YLP to the search list then…pretty well made lights and some of them have unique features. The Panda models seem to be very well received and reviewed…lots and lots of headlamps out there, though.

Thanks, I have already seen and saved as not absurd.
I have now, simply out of interest, first ordered a Fireflies PL47MU. Might be a bit heavy at 21700, but we'll see.
There is not by chance a T-shaped Mule in 18650 size with e21a or 219b on the market...?

And this is where you break out the soldering iron and tooly bits and enter the Kingdom of Mods.

I hope you have fun here, Equinox!

My favorite headlight is the Lumintop HL3A.

It's not that cheap, but the smooth ramping is really nice.

If you want something way cheaper, I also like the Boruit D10.
