Thrunite TH30 V2 Review

The Thrunite TH30 V2 is the updated version of Thrunite’s original 18650 powered TH30 headlamp. The V2 features the Cree XHP 70.2 emitter in cool white, which is rated for 3300 lumens on turbo. The neutral white emitter is also an option. The beam profile is very floody thanks to the large emitter and shallow reflector. Included in the package is a 3100 mah button top 18650 non-proprietary battery, usb c cable, spare o-rings, spare charging cover, pocket clip, and the headstrap. The included battery is not proprietary and the light functions and charges just fine with my other flat top 18650’s.

A big upgrade with the V2 is the addition of onboarding charging via usb c, which is very convenient and easy. Since it has onboard charging, this light is a great gift idea to non-flashaholics. The rubber flap is a little long, but does stay secure in place. There is a newly upgraded switch button that also acts as a battery indicator to show battery status. Blue is fully charged, purple is abnormal, and red means the battery is under 10%. The light will also begin to flash when the battery is low. The light design has been updated with new knurling which looks very nice and feels well in hand. The included headstrap is the same with older models, but the strap is very comfortable and easily adjustable. With the included pocket clip, you can also remove the strap and use it as a normal right angle flashlight.

UI is straightforward Thrunite, a single press turns the light onto the last memorized mode. A long press from off is moonlight, hold while on cycles through low, med low, med, high, and a double click activates turbo. Mode spacing is pretty good here but the low mode is rated at 30 lumens which is a little high. The .3 lumen moonlight mode is great but the jump to 30 lumens seems too high. I would much prefer the low mode to be around 10 lumens. A big improvement with the V2 is that SOS mode is activated with a triple click, as with the old version SOS had to be cycled through the normal modes.

I am quite impressed with the runtimes of this light. As you would expect, the light runs fairly warm on turbo. High mode is great with an output of 1200 lumens for 5 minutes and then 800 lumens for 111 minutes. That is a ton of light with a stable output of over an hour. The mode I use the most is med low which gives out 131 lumens for 13 hours. I did add some DC Fix to the lens of the light to clean up the noticeable tint shift from the Cree emitter. With the addition of DC Fix, it really helps to smooth out the beam for additional flood when walking. Overall, I am very impressed with the build quality and output of this headlight.

Things I like:

  • 3300 lumens on turbo!

  • Onboard USB-C charging

  • Great runtimes on high and lower modes

  • Included non-proprietary battery

  • Simple UI

  • Moonlight mode

Things I don’t like:

  • 30 lumens on low mode is too high of a jump from moonlight

Thanks for the review! Interesting to see the changes on the TH30. I agree… moonlight to 30 lumens is way too much of a jump. I think another intermediate step in there would’ve worked without any inconvenience with total steps to high.

Thrunite would do so much better if they’d jump to Anduril UI.

New UI is really nice. Moonlight is separated from main modes so its fine. Anduril? It have linear awful stepped mode and do exactly the same - jumps from moonlight to bright level.

Set like 11 steps to the ramping and the first brightness level after moon is reasonable.

And if i need only 4-5 level? :stuck_out_tongue:
