Xtar VC2S not selecting 0.5A charge current

Hi everybody,

I have a Xtar VC2S which I have been using today to charge 750mah AAA NiMH cells.

The charger keeps selecting 1A charge current for these AAA and I would prefer to have it select the 0.5A charge current si it is charging at less than 1C.

Does anyone know why this is the case? I would have thought that 0.5A charge rate would be ideal for AAA NiMH cells.

Thank you in advance.

Moley

It is all automatic and determined from the internal resistance of the battery. You can’t change it.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Ah. Well, that’s disappointing.

Given that they are brand-new Grey Ladda 750 AAA I would have hoped that they’d charge at the 0.5A rate.

Never mind. I’ll use another charger.

Thanks again,

Moley

Yes it is based on internal resistance, I don’t know what the threshold is for changing, I find for my Liion cells it chooses 500ma for most protected cells and 1A for unprotected cells.

Useful information about the charger in this review here: https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Xtar%20VC2S%20UK.html

I also have this charger and occasionally use it for NIMH cells, but most of the time I use the ikea Ladda charger which works well: https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Ikea%20Ladda%20YH-990BF%20UK.html

Xtar commented on this upon release and said these VC2S/VC4S are made more for Vapers who want everything charged as quick as possible.
