My first ever post!

Hey guys, so Im brand new to BLF and brand new to the entire flashlight community so I just wanted to drop by and say hey to everyone. Im sorry if this has been asked before as Im sure you pros are probably getting tired of answering the same questions over and over but since this is my first post I figured Id ask anyways but I was in need of a flashlight as I got sick of using my phone light and I went to buy one and there were sooooooo many and I didnt even know there were this many options and types and brands it was super overwhelming but as a newb I decided to go cheap so I bought a Luxpro lp830c 120lm and a Luxpro lp146 40lm keychain light. I just wanted to see how flashlight vets feel about Luxpro. Is this a good brand? Are they reliable? And is there a certain brand that you guys rec. for beginners?

Welcome to BLF MUalum13 my fellow Wisconsinite!

I highly recommend checking out the Convoy flashlight Store for flashlights. There are many different types of Convoy flashlights, but the S2+ is an excellent EDC (every day carry) and has many options to choose from.

the luxpro isn;t great, sorry

any convoy light will beat it any way you choose to compare!
get an s2+!
1000 lumens easy

under $20\
way under

usually zooming or focusing lights are not that great

Thanks for signing up, MUalum13!

I like Convoy and Sofirn for low budget flashlights.

Check out their AliExpress stores for plenty to choose from.

I’ve never heard of Luxpro but the Convoy S2+ (or other Convoy models) is a great light to start with. I’m pretty sure you’ll see a difference in quality between it and your Luxpro.

Apparently you didn’t read the user agreement. New members are required to buy beer for the other members.

Luxpro is easy to find in my local hardware store. I still have one in my car. Idk which model, 2xAA & claims about 180 lumen I think.

Still beats my old 2xAA maglites with the old xenon bulbs.

Many people don’t like them, but I carry Olight’s i5R model daily. Because I’m an idiot and it’s pretty much idiot-proof.

Get one on sale and it won’t cost much more than the luxpro 2xAA that I bought, and it puts out more light (or about the same, at least) with much less size and weight. Plus it will run on its own li-ion, alkaline, or NiMH.

Paid about $20us for luxpro and I think 26$us for my first i5R.

Haha well 1st rounds on me then!

I figured it wasnt the best but I decided to just get whatever to get my feet wet. Convoy keeps coming up, I am definitely going to check them out for my next purchase. And also really? I thought zooming/focusing was more of a higher end feature...man I have so much to learn!

I havent seen much on Luxpro even on Youtube. I saw they had a pretty decent size following though on social media so I figured this must be a legit brand which I admit isnt the best way to measure quality but I still have a lot to learn but Im starting to sense like you said that many ppl dont like Luxpro. Ive heard a lot about Olight that they are an excellent brand. The i5r is 100% in my budget and looks beautiful too!

Thank you everyone for commenting. I really appreciate it! There is so much to learn and I am insanely excited! This is going to be super addicting...I can feel it. Haha.

Convoy will 100% be my next pick up! I am so excited!

Wisconsin baby!! Everyone keeps mentioning Convoy. I think the S2+ will be my next pick up.

Check out the Sofirn SC31 Pro for an all arounder. Anduril is a game changer. On sale now BTW.

zoom/focus COULD be a good feature

for whatever reason though, it seems usually not to be

rather it is the mark of a cheap light, often enough

one problem i see is, it will make the beam smaller but throws away most of the light to do it, it doesn;t get much brighter, just smaller

and when it does focus, you see the annoying square LED projected as the ‘beam’

Welcome to BLF!

Haha, welcome to BLF MUalum13. Your first post could have been anyone of us not long back. Great to have you here, and there are some solid recommendations upthread. Convoy S2 is a super price to performance choice, as is most any Sofirn product. I love the Anderil lights (noted upthread), basically you click to turn on, and hold the button down to increase or decrease the lights brightness. (Instead of the traditional click on click off). If you check the front page, there are often discounts available posted regularly (thinking of Fins posts but there are others all the time suck as FREEME ✌ ASTROLUX FT03S SFH55 9300lm & FT03 SFT40 2200lm 1300m NarsilM v1.3 USB-C - ALIVE) https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/51147

2 uber serious points to pay attention too: Don’t cheap out on any high power lithium battery’s (they are designated by size 18650 etc) or battery chargers. There is a learning curve, spend a tad bit of time learning about this stuff. Battery’s can explode and they can catch on fire. My buddy who almost died when his cheap POS charger caught his bed and then seconds later his entire bedroom on fire when he was sleeping in it not long back can attest to it. Consult Henriks wonderful site: http://lygte-info.dk/ or ask here if you have any other questions about purchases.

Welcome again, and better make room on your dresser for all these new flashlights and headlamps you’ll be getting LOL.
