Convoy S2+ metal switch mod

I received a package today from banggood for the convoy s2+ to mod the tail cap to have a constant blue light “[link]”:https://www.banggood.com/Convoy-DIY-1288-Switch-with-LED-Blue-Light-For-Convoy-C8-M1-M2-S2-S2-Flashlight-p-1222301.html I thought the rubber cap supplied in the kit would be a simple swap over but it turns out the s2 I have has a metal switch and you simply cant convert it to a rubber cap.

A few hours later and many prints I have 3d printed my own button and sleeve that replace the metal switch and allow the nice blue light through. I really like the feel of it maybe because i did it myself but to me it feels nicer to switch on and change mode then the original metal switch.

Printed with translucent PLA+ and it took 8 iterations of print and testing to get it to work. I could tweak it futher as theres a little bit of play in the button but its fine.

Getting wet up there much?

not yet and not predicted to get much in the next week either

Wellp, you can swap the switch-board on the metal-cap switch, but it’ll only light through the translucent ring around the cap. Looks quite nice, even if not blindingly bright.

The custom button looks nice, though.

Hmm I didnt have any translucent ring around the cap or button or anywhere, maybe my model is different? There was a tiny gap between the button and the bit I had to unscrew but it wasnt big enough to let any light through, maybe a tiny bit that would be visible in the dark but I couldnt see anything coming through.

Interestingly the listing on banggood says it wont work with biscotti but I am not having any issues. I did read on another thread someone mentioned the driver has been updated to work with the light now.

My solution will let water through hopefully that wont be a problem.

I ordered some SMD leds a few weeks ago hopefully they arrive soon and I can change the color altho blue looks nice.

This is a very nice solution. If I remember correctly the original metal tailcap had a few O-rings. If you replaced that with a translucent version you got yourself a (weak) lighted tailcap. Your version is more effective: more light while using a weaker current.
I wonder what happens if you remove (drill out) the center part of the original metal button and fill it up with a translucent material.

Yeh, that’s what I was referring to, the ring around the metal cap.

Mine’s blue, didn’t have orange chips to swap.

(Orange host, 2700K, wanted an orange/amber backlit switch.)

Useful thread, thanks.

Just ‘discovered’ Convoy and have orange and blue switches on the way from Simon, after buying my first S2+ with sw30 219b from Neal (no name on tube and no solder on the pill, so I assume it’s his own?). Really like it.

Along with the switches I have two more S2s and a S21A B35AM on the way.

Because of this thread, I will now modify one of the illuminated switches to use with the metal cap. So, thanks.

The original 3D button is nice work, but I don’t have access to a 3D printer.

Ive tweaked the design a little and created a round toped button that is better again in my opinion. Also updated my original post with thingiverse link hopefully it can help someone out one day.

I think the silver metal switch has that translucent sleeve, so some light can still pass through. The black metal switches don’t have it, so no light will pass through at all.
