Looking for advice on flashlight choice for bike

Hello everyone!

I was planning on using an Eagle Eye X2R on a Fenix Sport ALB-10 that I just ordered from my mountain bike. Unfortunately I can’t find the X2R anywhere and would like your advice on a replacement. It’s been a while since last time I was here and I’m sure there are improved options available to replace the X2R by now!

Need a good amount of flood on the flashlight as well as USB charging. Ideally the flashlight would fit the mount (max 26mm diameter) and would be very well waterproofed. I’m guessing this would be a 18650 light as a 21700 wouldn’t likely fit the holster. Also, not a fan of too many modes, 3 modes max (low, med and high) are the most I’d like for this use.

Looking forward to your suggestions and thoughts!
Many thanks!

Thanks MoreHighCRILumens, much appreciated!

Then 21700 are an even better option then!

Still open to suggestions as to a good waterproof, floody light with USB charging if anyone has any!

Try this Astrolux EC01 I had one and gave to my daughter.
I admit I did not use on my bike but it is a darn good light.EC01

I think I’ll try the bracket with an old Sofirn SP40 I have somewhere, this may work.

Tbanks Paul the EC01looks pretty good! I think I may order one of these for another important ahem… cough cough…. project.

MoreHighCRILumens, do you think the base could work with a Sofirn SP40 when rotated sideways?

i’d still recommend a $30 4x18650 light from amazon

like this

double led bike light

or this

quad

the light might be a bit cold but i;ve used these things for at least 8 years now and they are very good

Try to get hold of a Lumintop B01.

Nice fairly sharp cutoff on top, got some throw but also lights up the immediate area in front of you.

If the trails you ride is rather bumpy… where I ride, even with 160mm travel front/rear, vibration kills stock lights. I’ve destroyed a few and finally got a few custom made (many can do so here) and potted and no more issues. My handlebar light is a triple-led Eagle Eye X6, helmet light usually a single led X6 or any tube light (prob doesn’t need to be potted on the helmet).

And the Fenix mount has never failed me, but I loop the lanyand on the bar just in case.

Convoy 3X21A sbt90.2 :cowboy_hat_face:

B01 is good. S2+ with SST40 or LH351D is good too, especially if you can mount the light lower and use the tape switch. I also like the Zebralight H600w MKIV.

Thank you all very much for your advice and suggestions!

MoreHiCRILumens, thanks, since I can’t turn the mount I’ll need to use the SP40 as a helmet light - need to figure out how to mount this now.

siata94 - great points regarding the vibration, hadn’t thought of this. The bike does have front suspension but I doubt that makes a difference. I don’t go easy on it so perhaps If I can add some rubber dampening it may help.

Perhaps a Zanflare F1 may work as I have a couple.

Can anyone share their experience mounting a headlamp to a helmet? (straps won’t fit).

Cool, thanks MoreHiCRILumens

I have a specialized align ii - perhaps I can try the same sideways

I’m using an Emisar D4V2 ocassionally. The bike mode of Anduril UI is interesting. I always have to check the manual on how to access it but I like it.

Basically, it brights in a medium mode (around 300lm), an every few seconds drops a few high or turbo flashes. Also you can hold the button to ramp up or clic hold to ramp down.

For mounting tube light on the helmet… I use 2 12” velcro straps (from amazon) to secure the light thru the helmet vent holes. Remember to loop the lanyard around the vent holes just in case. I’ve never had any issues once I got the modded lights, but bombing down chunky sections in the dark and losing a light is not a pleasant thought. I use an older helmet that has center vents so it’s perfect for the light. Yours appears the same. Just make sure you have at least 2 lights running at all times in case one craps out for whatever reason.

You prob don’t have rattlesnakes but it’s important to have a floody light on the handlebar to see what’s in front and under the front tire, or just avoiding baby heads…

Uhhh, whut?

Youse go biking in “The Devil’s Rejects” territory?

in MTB it’s commonly called that for rocks that size. Some trails are full of them and it gets pretty slippery trying to avoid them all which you can’t anyway…

Aha.

(Whew.)

I was thinking the same thing but was too embarrassed to ask! Now you did, I have learned something new!

Great stuff, thanks. We don’t have rattlesnakes but we do have vipers and this is indeed a concern.
Yep I’m planning on having a bike mounted flood light and the helmet mounted SP 40.

Thought the baby heads referred to young copperheads or something!

My recomendation is Convoy s21B XHP 50 5k. 21700 5000mh battery and you have plenty and floody light for 2,5 hours. Use it second wiinter and its great. Bot dont use it on the streets !
