OTF (Out The Front) knives...the good the bad, and the ugly.

So OTF knives are pretty much knife enthusiast high-end carry type stuff. Here at BLF we are all enthusiasts, EDC guys, etc. So, I assume many of you are into knives as much as torches. The OTF is pretty much the opposite end of the spectrum as a fixed blade, and they all have some quirks (and features…lol). What OTF knives do you carry, and what about it made you pick it. Personally I carry a microtech ultratech in carbon fiber with blue trit in the thumb slide. Totally would post a pic, but I aint gonna lie…im new to the forum, and I cant figure it out….sad. lol. Anyways tell me about your favorite OTF edc and what you like…and dislike about it!

I’ve always wanted a MT FireAnt and a MT Zombietech, but they’re drying up.

Chris

  1. Boy you aint kidding. Microtech as a whole is falling off. MANY of their top customers/supporters are leaving, including me. Love the knife, but the company is nothing like it was 5 years ago when I got it.

I like knives that have at least a three inch blade, and OTF knives of that length are illegal in California.

So, I get assisted-openers, and I have quite a collection of them.

ScottRay, politics are not allowed on BLF, and derogative political slurs are definitely not allowed.

Please stop with the rude political hatred.

Hey, hey, hey, enough with the microaggressions!
Respect his safe space!

Wow. Little too strict. Nobody is trying to talk politics. Maybe yall are a little too uptight for me here. I was loving it here til this.

It appears this, in fact, IS a safespace. Lol. Probably not the place for me then.

I belong to a lot of forums, and none of them allow politics, so it's not just BLF.

#feelings.

I have had several MT’s but sold them all over time. I really enjoyed them. but I ended up needing the money back out of them. They sure resell well!

These days I carry a AKC F-16 or one of a few Lightnings. I have had several Lightnings with almost zero issues. I got an “Elite” model for Christmas that is a lemon. It misfires/comes off track close to 50% of the time.

Maybe one day I’ll own another higher-end otf, but for now I am really liking the $30-60 class.

Try AccurateReloading.com - The founder “Saeed” believes in free speech unlike many US based forums which do not, even though our constitution guarantees it.

There is a political section for those interested .

Considering how horrible political discussions usually go online, I'm glad it's not allowed on BLF, and I am not interested in forums that allow it.

People say horrible things online when there are no repercussions.

But if you try to say those same things in person (to the wrong person), you would get into a physical fight, and deserve it.

I don't have to personally witness a train wreck or dumpster fire to know how bad it is, but if you like that sort of thing, I'm glad that it's allowed elsewhere.

Indeed sir.

Let’s move on. Here’s a link to the Lightnings on Grindworx. Several are available for $30 plus shipping. Again, these are great users, loved by many. https://www.grindworx.com/cat—Lightning-OTF—170#/sort:price_sort_asc:asc

Here’s a link to the F-16’s. The remaining colors left are not the best, but I love the knife. I’ve carried it almost daily since Christmas and it has not misfired a single time. That’s really saying something. https://www.grindworx.com/cat—AKC-F-16-OTF—550#/sort:price_sort_asc:asc

Thanks gang.

I had great results with the knife listed below. My buddy liked it so much that he talked me out of it! He now carries it as a heavy user… I’ve seen it since then and it is really beat up… No complaints from him and still fires great.

I meant to replace it after I gave it to him, but then started carrying my Benchmade Infidel… I need to get another off of AMZ, though. Just being honest I rarely pull the Benchmade Infidel like I would have this $36 knife because of thinking about how much the Infidel was!

The listing is constantly getting moved around… ya know, rules…lol… I had to go digging for this one because my original purchase listing had expired and showed the little dog saying they couldn’t find what I was looking for!

Some time ago I bought dhgate version of ultratech. Build quality perfect, kicking strong, but no use except opening cardboard boxes and letters

I bought a microtech troodon about 10 years ago, and after not that much time/use it will not open. There is too much friction or something and the blade doesn’t make it all the way out to the lock position on its own. Has anyone had this happen to their OTF knives?

I hope it just needs a clean and lube, but I haven’t had much luck finding the right bit to turn the screws to open it up. Pretty annoyed. :rage:

They have a lifetime warranty. I’d send that thing back to North Carolina and have them fix it.

The bits can be purchased, if you prefer that route.

Thanks.

I have looked around at the Chinese bits and it’s really not clear which one will work for me. There are multiple sizes for my style of screw head and the one I ordered was too big. Maybe I’ll do another search. I really do like the OTF style for the utility; it is the easiest and fastest way to take a blade out and put it back one handed.

I agree! Plus… They are a lot of fun!

That MT bit also takes the clip off of the Olight OPen… random, but in case anyone was wondering.
