It’s time to build the megagrid.

Tesla proposed alternating current because at the time it was easier to transform the voltage. The problem with alternating current is in a wire it produces radio waves. A wire 3000 miles long radiates most of it’s energy as radio waves. In order to build a wire around the entire earth it needs to be direct current. For this reason alone it would be a boondoggle worthy of Lyndon RaRouche. However the main reason is to reinforce the earths magnetic field. The magnetic field has flipped before and it is overdo for a flip. When it flips we will be attacked by the birds and even the bats.

Sounds like a fun project,

How many Amp-Turns do you figure would be needed?

One big honkin’ wire with a lot of amps, or a smaller gauge multi-turn coil at lower current?

What would be the inductance and resistance of the coil?

Just one turn. I’m think buckytubes instead of copper.

It will cause havoc with the migratory paths of all living and dead creatures on Earth. If you don’t place it precisely it will cause the Earth to wobble and spin out of the solar system. What? the Earth already wobbles? It will cause the Earth to stop wobbling and spin out of the solar system. It will slow down the rotation of the Earth and we will spin out of the solar system. Cell phones won’t work. GPS won’t work. Electric cars won’t work. All new electric cars will be able to run for a full year and then they will have to plug into the free Earth ring (FER) for 5 minutes to recharge. And you won’t need an adapter. Some adapters required. The whole electric grid will crash. It’s going to change the time zones. They are building a giant super collider and the Earth is going to end when they make the final connection. The Earth is bigger than scientists thought it was. The Earth is smaller than scientists thought it was. FER will take 80 to 100 years to build. FER will start within the next 5 to 20 years. Not in my backyard.

What about the Nomenclature of the Earth—will that be affected?

No, the FER will not be grounded so the nomenclature will not change. Some countries may require the FER to go underground but it will still be isolated from the Earth. Some countries may require the FER to be grounded. That will only affect small segments. All sections underground will use super non-conductors to keep the FER isolated from the Earth.

That’s good to hear, and i didn’t even know about the grounding. Wouldn’t want any ground loops to cause noise.

Oh yes there will be noise. You will hear a ringing or ticking or a dull roar that sounds sort of like ocean waves or a strong wind. This will be noticeable at 4 mile intervals out to 48 miles. It will be 5 mile intervals out to 55 miles for the underground sections. Once everybody has the right adapter to plug their car in most of the noise should subside. You will not hear the noise from inside your car.

The last time the Earth magnetic field flipped was about 42,000 years ago. That was some time before I went to Highschool. Better be prepared, because this flipping thing happens every 300,000 years or so. OTOH, it’s not going to happen upcoming 2 weeks.

Thanks, the bird and bat attack thing was a worry.

Looking back at some of his posts, I’m not at all sure the OP isn’t split personality, delusional, and more than a little eccentric.

A dc wire around the planet?? LMAO, good one. imo it is just as affective as to fight global warming by opening all fridges, and freezers

Do you have a plan to protect it against nuclear bombs and Carrington events?

So we’ll have Birdemic and Batdemic! :open_mouth:

You think I’m eccentric check out this guy. Messages From Prior Civilizations (FULL) - YouTube

“The terminus, it’s the terminus i tell ya, that’s the secret aspect of the plasma and guitar riffs that form the teeth.”

Back on topic,
Since the FER is DC then the nuclear bombs will have no effect—any excess current will just flow toward the sections that weren’t nuked.

Zero D is a regular guy. Sometimes he just likes to throw a terdle in the punch bowl to watch the freak show.

The earth magnetic field will change and due to the hydrodynamic wave nature of it, it will be crossing zero-nodes in transitioning.
Depending in how long this zero-node will be above a part of the earth, and how big this will be, there is no need to think about consequences. Solar wind will just sterilize the area. End of all thoughts for that area.
More critically is to be seen, the magnetic field keeps the atmosphere rather unaffected by solar wind.
Once this field is too low, the atmosphere will be eroded by the solar wind.
Again, not a big issue, because there is nothing humans can do against it.

The earth is already losing water, because of the higher temperatures, water vapour is transported to higher layers of the atmosphere, where it interacts with the forces of the solar particle stream and magnetic micro-turbulence, carrying away water molecules into space. That’s exactly why we see not an increase of absolute humidity in the atmosphere, because this kind of erosion is balancing the higher evaporation of surface water. Again, nothing to think about, because humans are way to greedy to accept the fact, that unlimited continuous growth is not possible in a closed system.

Global warming will anyway be cancelled out by the upcoming nuclear winter, but again nothing to worry about, as humans are way too stupid to avoid destroying the earth and themselves.

To return to OP: Megavolt DC nets are evolving, but there is absolutely no chance, people will cooperate and fund a commons on energy. Too greedy, too aggressive, too short.minded. And this technology is used in the blackhearted economic way of omitting a return wire and abusing ground for this. Any load will never be constant, so expresses an alternating magnetic field, which helps to further demagnetize the earth. See AC demagnetizer. No advantage over AC nets.

You know why in reality there are no extraterrestrial Aliens in contact with Earth? They see and hear our radio transmissions. Question: If you were an Alien, so much developed to be able to venture on interstellar travel, would you try to contact a species, that sends such signals and acts as humans do? Or would you rather place a bet on how long they will make it, take a bowl of popcorn and watch that comedy?

Still, if we go outside the joke concept, zerodish has a point.

A megagrid will be needed if we want to replace our dependence on fossil fuels.

Forget the meek inheriting the earth.

My money’s still on the cockaroaches.

Crocodiles, too.

Actually, let me put my bet on the tardigrades. All in.

I’m a bit bearish on tardigrades.
