Looking for a replacement battery 18650

Hello all,

I am looking for a replacement battery for a single battery vaping device. The specs for the battery I want to replace are as follows, and this is a non protected battery, This battery is out of stock from Orbtronic (where I got them from):

30A-40A 18650 3120mAh BUTTON Top Battery High Drain Rechargeable

New battery does not have to be exact Mah if I can find one that is better that would be OK also. My vape uses one battery, voltage is set at 4.0 volts and I run 2.5 ohm coils.

I bought a replacement battery from Orbtronic based on the guys recommendation but they honestly suck, they don’t even last a day where the original battery would last 2 days. second replacement battery specs are - 18650 Rechargeable Battery 3000mAh 20A-35A Li-ion 3.7V Button Top Rechargeable High Drain H-IMR - Orbtronic

(To avoid confusion, I am looking to replace this battery - 30A-40A 18650 3120mAh BUTTON Top Battery High Drain Rechargeable )

Thanks for any replies.

Here are some 18650 that are rated for 30A or more...

This one has the highest capacity, but is also the most expensive:

There are no vape forums where you can ask a question about vape batteries? sheesh

Asking about batteries, this is a battery sub forum isn’t it?

Talking about vaping isn't really allowed on BLF, but asking about vaping batteries should be fine.

I wouldn’t have even mentioned battery was for a vaping device but I figured I would be asked what the battery was going to be used in, so I included as much info as I could.

Just ordered 2 of the Efest batteries to try, thanks for the recommendation.

I hope you like it.

I am not a battery expert, and I know nothing about vaping batteries.

I do know that Efest is a good brand, though.

Used to use AW batteries before they lost their factory, than found Orbtronic ( they are nice as they are in Florida where I am), but they do not have a big selection for un protected button top batteries.

@hardbody, the 30A-40A 18650 3120mAh cell is actually just a regular Sony/Murata VTC6.

I don’t know where they got the 30-40A rating from honestly since it can handle 15A-20A continously, but eh.

Something like a Samsung 30Q would be a worthy replacement:

Oh, if you only need 15A, then there are many more choices.

That said, the Samsung 30Q gets recommended very frequently on BLF.

I need a button top battery, most links I see are for flat top

Oh right, right.

Well, if you want an even lower resistance cell, then the Molicel P26A seems like a great choice:

If you want more capacity, but higher internal resistance:

Here's some high capacity button tops that you might like...

I really don’t know how many amps I need, I’m just going from the specs of the battery I already have that worked pretty good.

I am using an older AW battery right now that I wanted to try to see how long it would last.

My wife and I both are using the same device and she has her batteries and I have mine, I do not have any more of the AW batteries ( they are in her stash)

The AW batteries we have, were purchased in 2017

The 30A-40A 18650 3120mAh BUTTON Top Battery High Drain Rechargeable Orbtronic were purchased in 2019 (and still last a decent amount of time)

The latest batteries I purchased from orbtronic were 18650 Rechargeable Battery 3000mAh 20A-35A Li-ion 3.7V Button Top Rechargeable High Drain H-IMR - Orbtronic in 2021and are the worst batteries out of all I have ever used, these don’t even last a full day.

How can I determine how many amps I need? I am going to look up to see if I can find a formula to determine amps using the voltage and ohms ( if it is possible to do so)

Thanks for the replies.

Maybe google for Mooch’s battery tests…find the one for your Orbtronic (and if it’s the Sony VTC6 then he’ll mention that). Then you can compare some other cells he’s tested. Our own HKJ does wonderful tests as well but Mooch caters to vapers’ concerns.

Best to ignore amp ratings on cell advertising and stick to the actual test results.

You can find the Sony with flat or button top (or “raised” top if not button, if that works for the contact on your device). The Molicel and Samsung mentioned above are also great…but compare test charts since your needs are different than most flashlight uses. Good domestic sources of cells are Liion Wholesale, Illumn, IMR, and 18650.com. Aloft Hobbies also has some options and they are usually cheaper on shipping.

I looked at his ratings and contacted him, will see if he replies, thanks all

Try here (18650 are all the way down below the other cell sizes): https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/blog-entry/list-of-battery-tests.7436/

Not to shoo you away from here by any means, but that would also be a great forum to inquire about this.

And here is HKJ’s wonderful resource. I’ll link you to the main since that shows all of his comparators at the top (just click on the 18650…second one). It’ll have two drop down menus so you can select one cell from the left and then compare it to a different cell on the right….plus you can choose different amperages (so you don’t have to look at a mess of lines with currents that don’t concern you…can select one or all of them with the checkboxes). He hasn’t tested as many but for what he does test, he is accurate and reliable. When you select a cell, there will also be a link below that drop down menu for the actual cell test (more info there, not just current).

I received a reply from Mooch and he recommended a couple options.

That's nice of him.

As you've heard already, Mooch knows what he's talking about.
