[4K] NATFIRE SF2 LEP $70!! Review

Thanks for the review. Very nice! Beautiful landscape. Too bad they sealed the battery, And that UI. :person_facepalming: Otherwise, would be a deal.

I didn’t explain on the video, but you can hold while on a level and it’ll switch off and uses memory. You still have to cycle through the strobes to choose anything else though.

Built in battery is an issue, but for a new brand that released this for the average Joe, it’s not too shabby. At least it’s a decent Tesla battery though, shouldn’t require replacing for a good while, and when it’s needed it’s not hard. The battery is connected to the driver with a 2 pin plug, so remove the battery and take it to someone who can solder the wires with the plug. This certainly wouldn’t be a deal breaker for myself, I’m more concerned about there being no lockout

Way better runtime on High than Jetbeam and Astrolux, so that says a lot right there about what you get for the low price point.

Yep. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a heck of a deal for a LEP that looks to perform pretty well. Didn’t think of the lockout, but yeah. It would be nice to have a switched tailcap but I suppose added springs etc. would push the cost up. If I didn’t have a couple LEPs already I would get one for that price.

IPX5 light rain. No cover over what I assume is a plastic convex lens. If the lens gets dusty you are not going to want to rinse it off underwater. I suppose a wet cloth or wet paper towel would get it clean. So are there O-rings at the lens or any of the other threaded connections? The lack of any way to lock it out is problematic. Even an inexpensive light needs to be safe. I have an idea to put something over or around the button switch but most people aren’t going to do that. It does look like the switch is flush and not protruding in any way so it may not get turned on easily by accident in a bag or pocket or other carry or storage methods. I would say get rid of all the Blinky stuff and put in a way to click it x amount of times and lock it out.

I knew there was something I missed mentioning, I have terrible short term memory and often forget while recording.

Plastic lens without any orings at the head. There’s a beefy oring on that back plate and the usb cover is a tight fit, so they at least stopped any potential safety issues around water getting into the battery compartment.

The switch is harder to press and being flush it helps, but still needs a lockout with a built-in battery.

Great video as always and thanks for all the various distance shots! I think it’s a pass for me…at the 800m-ish distance it still doesn’t look terribly useful. I was hoping the beam might spread just a tad further while keeping some illumination. Not like it’s all that easy to actually SEE at that distance, but I don’t think this will replace a good thrower. Not its niche, of course. I’m glad this light was brought to everyone’s attention, though…finally got me to get a little interested in the tech and learn about them.

Wonder what a compact triple LEP would be like….

Nearly the same spot size (give a few centimeters), just brighter.

An LEP isn’t exactly useful for anything more than a toy for most, for some it’s great for lining up each shot when mounted to a rifle, you also get zero glare off the barrel and suppressor.

I’d never buy one since I have no use for an LEP, I’ll never say no getting one free though

I hadn’t thought about lack of glare up close. I guess I can think of a bunch of practical niche uses for these…maybe none for me, though. Still, impressive contraptions they are!
