Opus Bt C3100 low current on one slot

Hello,

I’ve been using this opus charger for the last 5-6 years. Its DC in socket was broken once but I resoldered and fixed with epoxy, now it works fine except for the one slot.

I am not sure whether this problem was there before or after fixing the dc input.

Right now the second slot (from left) only charges at ~100mA rate, doesn’t matter what current I set. Other slots work fine and doesn’t change the situation when other slots are empty or not.

Did anyone have any idea how can I fix this?

How do you know it only charges at 100mA? Is that what the charger says or what you have measured? After all these years with mine, I’ve never double checked to make sure it actually charges according to what it states.

Yes, the charger states it charges with 100mA-80mA, although I set it to 1000mA. The voltage increases very slowly, and when I put battery to another slot I see same voltage. Which should mean that it really charges very slowly with 80mA.

Had the same thing happen on my first unit and I do know why.

Although the charger has reverse polarity protection, when another battery is loaded in the slot that it flip flops to during charging the protection is not there.
I put a flat top cell in backwards and saw a good size spark when seating it and removed it at once. However that still had time to screw up the charging controller.

Ended up dedicating that slot for 10440 or 16340 duty as high current is hard on them. Gave the charger to my neighbor and it is still gong strong.
