“”Google has issued an emergency security update for all Chrome users as it confirms that attackers are already exploiting a high severity zero-day vulnerability.
The emergency update to version 99.0.4844.84 of Chrome is highly unusual in that it addresses just a single security vulnerability. A fact that only goes to emphasize how serious this one is.
In a Chrome stable channel update announcement, published March 25, Google confirms it “is aware that an exploit for CVE-2022-1096 exists in the wild.”
All Chrome users are therefore advised to ensure their browsers are updated as a matter of urgency.“”
Make sure you have 99.0.4844.84, I hit the Red Update button on the top right of the screen, Chrome relaunched, yet it was still not the latest version until I went in the About Google Chrome under Help menu, only then started showing the process update for the 99.0.4844.84
Can’t say because mine needed an update anyway. I’m having trouble freeing up space for updates on my Note 4. Seems like system apps takes up most of the internal storage on my phone.
I use Brave on Mac, Android, and Linux. Thanks for the heads up. Seems like .84 just happened. (IIRC, I read on another site how critical it was to do that late last week.) Just updated it now on the Mint box I’m typing this on. Pretty sure it was just yesterday that this box updated to .84. Will double check my phone and Mac.
If the update is so important, I think Google should force us to update our Chrome browsers immediately instead of just having the option to do it manually.
I set everything to automatic update but end up having to do many of them myself and wondering why my system has been at risk for days or even a week or more.
For me Windows, Avast free (program), (the virus list does automatically update), Chrome, should all update on their own or at least have a pop-up to tell me to update.
Yeah… I’ve been using Firefox since 2004. On Windows I Sandboxie almost everything. I paid for a lifetime license and have absolutely no regrets that it went opensource (one of the better outcomes).
