Headlamps and hardhats

I’m looking for a better way to mount my lamp to my hardhat. I currently have the strap zip-tied through some faceshield slots on the sides, and I don’t really like it. Any thoughts?

they make mounts

What kind of lamp?

Run of the mill right angle 18650 torch w/ a headstrap. I’m wondering if anyone makes and adhesive mount and I can forgo the strap

check this guys hardhat, double mount….apparently from Inner Mountain Outfitters

This is actually a riffle light mount, search google for "QQ06" for many buying options from Amazon Ali-express etc.
You can also find some 3D printer designs

yeah, he had to do some adapting to use

Thanks for the input guys. In searching for the rifle mount, I found some .5” adhesive zip tie mounts. I think those will do the trick with some o-rings.

Look up Blackjack hardhat clips. They’re a narrow u-channel with 3M tape for mounting. They work great, lots of oil hands around here use them. They seem to stay put unless you have heavy exposure to oil vapor/solvents/extended time in contact with water, but if they work loose you can retape them or epoxy them. The clips mentioned above are easy to slip out of place and break…Milwaukee does have some that are a little better but I think you’d have to contact Milwaukee or your local service center to get some (only included with their lights). Petzl also has some that might work…rubber coated flexible clips that you wrap under the rim. Also, not sure if anyone else is doing this, but Klein has a whole lineup now of headlamps that are made to clip onto hardhats made for them…not terribly expensive but the lights may not be what you like.

If you use the zip tie mounts, the adhesive on those is often sub par from either poor quality tape or poor storage conditions, so clean the hat well and press those on hard for like a full minute each and leave them alone for a couple days if possible (or buy new UHB tape…or VHB if that’s all you can find).

That rifle mount would be ok for caving where the hat is usually more of a bump cap, but on a jobsite you wouldn’t be allowed to drill/screw/rivet the hard hat (unless your company/boss sucks or you work for yourself and don’t tell your insurer/bonder).

Yep on a jobsite OSHA here in the US will make you remove the hat and get a new one if it has any holes drilled in it. I’m sure you guys got some big brother group that will tell you the same thing up there.

I’ve also seen real pricks that will tell you stickers are a reason to fail a hat because they can cover up damage or flaws in the hat.

Hard hat clips, I have the Fenix and they have been most durable.

Change out the headlamp strap for the Skilhunt HB3, it’s easier to get your light in and out of if you want to use it standalone.

Why not just VHB tape the mount directly to the helmet?

I have tried the fenix clips but I like to be able to remove the light so I can use different ones. This is meant for the earmuff clip but I remove that part and screw it on the front.

Howbow pulling the strap out of the mount, then using rtv or somesuch to glue it to the front of the helmet?

Best if you got the all-rubber mounts with the “O-rings” that hold the light, vs the crappy hard-plastic ones with the sissy-pansy little prongs.

Ya that would be good. What search term to find the rubber mount?

If it’s a climbing or caving helmet without a brim then double-sided tape is an option. If it’s a hard hat with a brim and the bezel ends up behind the brim then the spill of some lights is not going to hit the ground as close to your feet as you might want. Armytek has made a mount to attach to a brim and changed the design at least two times over the years. AHM, AHM-02, AHM-03. I believe most helmets warn against using any sort of adhesives. Not that a little bit of double-sided tape is going to cause any problems with actual safety. I have no clue about OSHA.

Unno. “rubber headstrap”?

I designed this simple clip in mount for my helmet. Still works great.Thingiverse link

3M Dual Lock(250) on mount AND helmet without the strap. Clean both sides with alcohol before gluing on. Been using this for years on my hardhat with the Sofirn D25S light. They guys at work are using this setup as well. If a pic is needed ,I will post one .
