NBA Playoffs 2022 (no politics please)

This thread is about the NBA Playoffs 2022, which started this last weekend.

Politics are not allowed on BLF, so please kindly keep your politics to yourself.

I usually root for LeBron teams.

LeBron may be past his prime, though he's still amazing, but this season the Lakers were a huge disappointment.

They didn't even make the Playoffs.

This post season, I'm rooting for the Phoenix Suns.

I think they have a good chance of winning the West again.

I don't know who might win the East, so I'm just going to watch Suns games (unless they get knocked out.)

Who do you like this post season?

Wait… what? Politics? In basketball?

I’m missing something… I’m sure of it.

Anyhoo, I don’t usually “root” for anyone, just observe. LOL

since political referral is not allowed in this thread…
it is difficult to describe just how political the NBA is.

Well, there is that player named...  Cam Payne.

But seriously, just about anything can be political, even sports.

Many people watch sports and talk about sports to get away from politics and other annoying subjects, so I hope it doesn't creep up here.

Sports can be a great way to escape from reality for a bit, just like obsessing over flashlights.

LeBron played in only 56 games this season, missing 26. When he was on the court, however, he was magnificent. Nearly won the scoring title.

Russell Westbrook had a horrible season, but he gets too much blame for the Lakers' woes. Management traded all their best defensive players to get him, so it was no surprise that one of the NBA's top defensive teams lost its defensive prowess. In addition, Anthony Davis played only 40 games.

One thing was made clear: Westbrook has the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA superstar. The number of boneheaded plays he made was an eye-opener for me. The high-visibility LA market really exposed him. Westbrook also has the worst jump shot of any superstar guard I have ever seen. It was a major disappointment that he refused to take any personal responsibility for his team's failures this year.

Yep, I agree on your assessment of the Lakers.

...

I don't know if anyone saw the Suns game, but one of their best players got injured in the third quarter.

The Suns weren't playing all that well before the injury, but once Booker hurt his hamstring and had to leave, it was basically over.

The Pelicans are playing without Zion Williamson, who hasn't played this season, and Zion has a lot of potential.

As is, it's going to be tough for the Suns to beat the Pelicans if Booker can't play, but it might be entertaining to watch.

If the Pelicans can make it far enough into the playoffs, maybe Zion will be able to play this postseason, which would be interesting.

Devon Booker's injury was a jarring, mood-changing, shock last night. The dude scored 31 points in the first half!

And then he was gone.

I did not see him limping too badly, though, so he may be able to come back. I sure hope so. According to the interwebs, a Grade I hamstring injury is a muscle strain that should recover in a few days. Grade II, however, is a partial muscle tear that would sideline Booker for an extended period. That would put a real damper on the Sun's championship hopes.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are looking like the team that opened the season winning 21 of its first 25 games. That's somewhat of a surprise. To be sure, the Warriors are favorites against a depleted Denver Nuggets, but they have absolutely dominated in the first two games.

But it's still early... there's lots of fun ahead!

The Warriors are looking good.

If the Pelicans beat the Suns, I might start watching Warriors games because I don't have much confidence in the Pelicans.

Go Pelicans — Around here we are in AWWW — Rookie coach starting 2 and 3 rookie players — no matter what happens — they’re playing with Intensity

Was that a 3 point shoot out at the end of game 2 or what

I’m pulling for the Timberwolves.
Yeah, I know they have no chance but I grew up in Minnesota. Pull for the Vikings and Twins too. I’m a sucker for losers.

One heck of an entertaining game. One of the best of the playoffs so far. The intensity of the Pelicans is off the chart. If Ingram can keep it up, they could win this round. Hopefully Devon Booker can come back, will make it even more entertaining.

Meh..not feeling it. I’m with Turkey dance. When my son was around we were doing NBA (mens) all the time. In fact, his betting picks paid for some of my vegas trips (+++) as he was hitting 80% correct. But he grew up, moved out and now is has a disk golf business and is even more fanatic about that stuff: and the importance of the NBA in our lives drifted away to near nothingness with every bold Lebron statement of fact. (BTW, Lebron has some great positive quotes as well, the guys amazing)

I watch the highlights in the gym with admiration at the amazing athleticism, but I’m out of this discourse.

Haven’t watched since Jordon and the Bulls. No boxing since Ali. I have a mental block with such things.

Really, by the letter of the law, are they not palming the ball CONSTANTLY.

Just don’t find it as enjoyable to watch as a couple decades ago.

I’m hoping for another Bucks championship! Never thought they would’ve done it in my lifetime, but last season was incredible.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow night.

I don’t watch much during the regular season, but the finals are a lot of fun to watch regardless of who’s in it.

I’d rather use my flashlight around the house than turn on the lights.

Celtics sweep Nets!

Perhaps KD deserves better, but there is a silver lining: The two guys who "could not" play in the regular season won't be burdened with any more demands to play in the playoffs.

That seems fair to me. wink

The Suns and the Pelicans are tied up at 2-2.

I have no idea who's going to win the series.

Miami Heat are looking good. What's the deal with injuries to Butler and Lowry? ESPN reports both are day-to-day.

Meanwhile the Warriors clinched their series against the Denver Nuggets with strong defense tonight, outscoring Denver 32 to 20 in the fourth quarter. Curry and Gary Payton II made timely shots late in the game.

Although they still have a long way to go, the Warriors appear to be gelling at the right time. Prior to game 1 of the playoffs, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green had played together for a grand total of only 11 minutes this season!

How about that Draymond Green ejection in yesterday's game between the Warriors and the Grizzlies?!!

Lot of controversy, to say the least.

Many NBA players tweeted that the penalty was too harsh. In term of actual damage done, a flagrant foul 1 would have been the right call. As there was no real harm caused to Grizzlies player Brandon Clarke, Green should have been allowed to continue playing.

Although all that might be true, I'm not sure Draymond has much to complain about. When you are jerking people down by their jerseys, you're not playing basketball anyway. And if you don't want to play basketball, well, maybe you should just head back to the locker room.

More to the point, if it's close at all, Green should not be placing his fate in the hands of the refs.

I thought that Green’s ejection was consistent with the way the game was ref’ed. Terribly one-sided, almost as if a fix was in. A jump ball at the end of the game when it was clearly off of a Grizzly player? At least the NBA admitted it in their L2M report.

I’m not entirely sure that Green was pulling him down. One can argue, and I will, that he grabbed the jersey to keep Clarke from falling.

I saw two tugs. The first was pulling down, with an intent to disrupt Clarke's shot. The second was pulling up, in order to soften the blow when Clarke hit the court.

That first one could have been dangerous.

The jump ball was messed up! I'd like to see a rule change that would require the refs to go to video replay in that circumstance.

Sweet. I never thought to look up the L2M reports before. Here's the Last Two Minute Report for the Warriors/Grizzlies game:

https://official.nba.com/l2m/L2MReport.html?gameId=0042100231

Sure enough, the NBA admits the jump ball with 4.8 seconds remaining was an error. The ball should have gone to Golden State.

The report also notes that Curry traveled with 17.5 seconds remaining, but the refs did not call it. The ball should have gone to Memphis.

The report contains video for both incidents.
