Anyone on Reddit?

I recently joined Reddit and started posting.

I need to be considered "active" so that I can buy some knives (and eventually sell some knives) on Reddit.

Today, I started posting on a flashlight subreddit so that I will be more active.

These are my subreddits so far:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetBlades/

https://www.reddit.com/r/chineseknives/

https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Knife_Swap/

https://www.reddit.com/r/knifeclub/

https://www.reddit.com/r/knives/

I'm known as -raccoon_city and I have the same avatar as on BLF.

What do you think of Reddit, and what subreddits do you like?

Welcome to reddit, we have been waiting for you!

You should also subscribe to r/EDC

there are also some good Balisong subs if you like those.

I love Reddit and that is really what led me to this hobby. It started off with r/edc and which led to r/flashlights

r/edc looks great, but I need 50 karma to post there.

I plan to post my flashlight reviews on r/flashlight to get some easy karma points.

I’m there as well. U/Weird_Working. I don’t know where that name came from, but I find it funny and accurate.

I’ll be watching for you on Reddit, raccoon city, and I will be sure to upvote those posts. We’ll get you past the minimum karma in no time.

r/flashlights is a great group of people; kind and helpful.

Not on Reddit but read this one:

huh
good ideas
i am on reddit but never looked for flashlight stuff
i just got on, to have local news type stuff

here is a fun one
chinatime
it;s about watch fakes
$14 copies of $3000 watches
that sort of thing

wle

I LOVE Reddit, there is even a sub dedicated only to hanklights.

A friend once told me the best description of Reddit: ‘’Reddit is for subject you love, from people you don’t care about. Facebook is about subject you don’t care about coming from people you love. ’’

I guess I hate people because I don’t use Facebook…

Great to see another active BLF’er appear on Reddit. They are different types of forums and should exist well side by side.

Reddit is a hellscape of social, political and commercial astroturfing. Smaller communities are alright but I ditched the whole platform so that my engagement wouldn’t generate profit for reddit through ad revenue. I don’t wish to support them in any way.

I’m on reddit with the same username.

I’ve noticed the format tends to encourage more frequent, shorter comments. They also seem to downright discourage looking up old posts by only giving very limited functionality to their search function. It is possible to save posts you like, but not to organize those saved posts. The basic bookmark function in most browsers works better.

Those two factors combined make it well suited for very casual conversation, but less well suited as a repository for technical information. Some users do a good job contributing the r/flashlight wiki, but the format of a subreddit wiki is very limited. Others have done a good job creating entries for the “brokenrecordbot” to offer detailed canned replies to common questions. But I still think Budgetlightforum is the better place for detailed technical and modding discussions.

I’m on Reddit as u/tacgriz. It’s a great platform but differs significantly from BLF. I started out there and it’s still my main platform for flashlight discussion.

I tend to lurk most of those subreddits… I don’t have an account anymore though. It’s something about the voting system and moderation that really irked me.

I tried to post on r/knifedeals once.

a long-standing member of that subreddit took objection because my account was new, and the deal was “so-so”

well, at the time I was new to the knife community. an ABKT damascus knife. not very coveted. as i can understand now.

but I deleted my account after my response posts were being deleted. the spam filter was basically not allowing me to comment on my on thread. which then got downvoted pretty badly, so I just deleted it.

I’ve never made an account again. I don’t like that environment. maybe there are a lot of bots, but I just felt like I was mistreated. So, they wont be getting any more contributions from me.

That doesn't surprise me.

sb doesn't like Reddit because he considers it to be toxic with its karma points and upvoting and downvoting, and possibly for other reasons.

The subreddits that I've looked at seem to be okay, though there are advertisements where there probably shouldn't be.

chinatime looks pretty cool.

If I didn't love my Casio digital watch so much, I'd probably subscribe.

For me, it's hard (impossible?) to beat a great Casio digital watch.

If I liked analog watches, I'd be all over chinatime.

R/flashlight is one of the better subs, people there are pretty chill, but subs centered around hobbies and crafts are generally pretty cool (as long as they’re not too big).
My username there is m4potofu, I mostly post on r/flashlight and lurk some other subs, mostly about manga, anime and a few game titles.

I don't like how you have to be "active" to post in r/knifedeals.

I also don't like the upvoting/downvoting, but I can live with that.

Plus, I don't like how you have to have a certain amount of karma points to post on some subreddits.

I prefer more traditional forums like BLF, but I really want to buy and sell knives on reddit, so I'll put up with everything.

That's controversial, and just plain terrible, but I approve.

And for that we thank you. You are very helpful there. Almost like a bot

I’m on reddit too, but I don’t post much. Same as here.
